Paypal charges retailers 2.9% + $0.30/transaction, right? Are credit card fees typically higher or lower than that?

Some credit card fees are higher than that but that depends on where you get yours! I believe mine are lower still!

One comment that I can make is that my sales increased tremendously when I started to offer Paypal! Now a high percentage of my sales are from customers with Paypal accounts!

I think paypal just offers the convenience more than anything. sign into a website to authorize a payment or go find your wallet, get your CC out and type in a bunch of numbers...?

Just curious. I wanted to know whether more of the sale price goes to the artisan if one uses one payment method over the other. It sounds like credit cards are too variable in this regard to make a general statement?

From my experience Square is even more seamless in that the user do not leave the checkout page in order to complete the purchase. With Paypal it goes to a new page, then login and enter the CC information. Square just makes the checkout process faster. Quite useful when ordering LEs.

I may be a anti 1 percenter luddite, but I prefer a posted letter with money order or check inside ( sometimes cash inside dark paper) and no middleman.

PayPal doesn't allow merchants to see your CC number or banking numbers. At least that's my understanding, and the reason I signed up for it originally. I love PayPal regardless, and there are often times when I skip purchasing something due to it not being accepted.

Square is 2.75% and no transactions fees.  Normally next day in your bank.  Square is stronger in POS, however, i have seen Square used for internet sales. At one time, Square was faster for transferring your funds, PayPal "improved."

PayPal is handy and common.  For many vendors, if it works - why change?  I do like Square better and may not buy if only PayPal option.

I always wondered why paypal does that. I'm not sure if it's for security reasons or what. I have a friend who is a system engineer for paypal. I'll have to ask him if he knows why...

I do like using square when I'm out shopping in town or eating at a restaurant...you plop in your CC, it recognizes the card information and then the rest is smooth from there.

I think I understand the appeal, but I've gone too far down the road of good intentions...
