Looking at placing a order for some MDC. The price with shipping will be $81. Is this soap worth the money. Thanks.

The soap will last you forever. It’s very slick and has an excellent post shave feel. The scents are very generic and simple. Ultimately your buying performance. Are there better soaps... yes Nuavia for one. Is MDC good, absolutely. Ultimately it’s your call. I have 2 tubs. Rose and Original and I’m aiming for lavender at some point. But I am also aiming for nuavia blue and a hell of a lot of other stuff lol

I've tried MDC several times. MDC Fougere is my favorite scent thus far. Performance and post-shave are on par with Caties Bubbles. is it worth the price? well it depends. if you're looking for a soap that performs well and will last forever, then it may be worth the cost.

I ended up selling my tub because there are soaps out there that have better scent options and perform much better at a much lower price point (WK, DG, B&M, A&E, Talbot, Mammoth, etc). I would suggest asking around for a sample and decide from there.

I have Rose, Vetyver and Fougere in my den, and a slightly used jar of Agrumes en route. MdC and Declaration are my two favorite soap brands.

I bought Vetyver and Agrumes through the BST. In my experience there are fine folks out there that would be willing to sell you an almost-full jar for far less than $81. It's worth a try! In fact, I have a PM from a fella who was willing to sell me his lightly used jar of Agrumes, but I received it after I'd committed to buy from someone else. PM me if you want to pursue that path...

IMO no it certainly isn’t. I can only comment on my experience. For me.....it is a very overpriced underachiever. While slick...I found it wasn’t very protective or cushioning. And afterward my skin felt dried out. I don’t understand what all the fuss is about it. It might have been an elite level player at one time...but...during the last few years so many better...and cheaper soaps are available from US artisans such as Grooming Department, WhollyKaw and Barrister+Mann to name a few. And Tallow+ Steel in Canada. But...YMMV....

frenchy you are absolutely right - as always YMMV.

While I would not recommend paying $81 for a jar, I would not say that MDC is an underachiever. For my face it works wonderfully and, given that I use AS splashes with ALL my best soaps including GD, Talbot, T+S, DG, WK, Nuavia, SS, I have never experienced any excessively drying effect. If anything, my face feels refreshed and squeaky clean after using MDC. My favorite scents are Fougere and Rose.

If you wait and monitor the BST forum you would certainly score a lightly used or even new a jar of MDC.

Cheers and Happy New Year!

IMO, not worth it, however, you know you are going to buy it, so stop procrastinating! LOL. Enjoy!

I own the original and the Fougère. Would I re-purchase? No way. There are too many great soaps available for far less. I was curious, just like you, so I won't try to talk you out of it. You asked.

Bilbo Baggins told Frodo, ‘Ask not the elves for advice, for they will say both yes and no’. So we must be elves lol.

It’s a very concentrated coconut oil soap. You’ll get 9 months to.a year out of a jar, so is it worth it in dollars and cents, yes. It’s more economical than many artisan soaps on a cost-per-shave basis. You can save on postage by buying two jars, and it’s always easy to sell a jar if you don’t want/like it.

Can you find cheaper soaps that do as well? Yes, but finding one that’s as cheap per shave and does as well is not as easy as one might think. Castle Forbes will beat it, most artisan soaps will cost more to use. Hard soaps made by Valobra or XPEC cream would be others that can rival MdCs cost-performance. Santa Maria Novella is a candidate but costs about the same in the US.

I’m surprised you mentioned Castle Forbes. I couldn’t lather that soap if my life depended on it. It was such a terrible performer for me. No issues with any other soaps just this one(lime) it was so bad I gave it away. Many other have expressed excellent results, I wish I was able to side with them as-well. It was just a shame for $60 a tub I was very disappointed after my 3rd time it was over for me. Aside from that using a cream type soap will definitely wear a lot faster than of a triple milled soap. Thanks for shooting out those other soaps as I don’t have them and would love to give them a try.
