I have found this soap to lather especially well with a synthetic brush. John has some of the best scented soaps I have come across.

I bloom and use a brush after 3 shakes. One of my best performing soaps? I am on my third jar of Woody Lavender.

I do not bloom the soap but use a badger brush that has been soaked and drained. I have never had a problem getting a good lather from Johns soaps.
Don't give up.

Have you tried XPEC or SMN? Neither of these rely on tallow & are both consistently ranked among the best. I'd be curious to hear how they do for your skin.

SMN is on my list to try but it is a very expensive soap "to try" just to find out I might not like it. I don't doubt the in shave performance is very good like a lot of veggie soaps I've used. I just find a lot of them to dry my skin out. I could remedy that with using a balm I guess, but I don't like balms. I really prefer aftershave splashes. I wonder if there are any vendors that offer samples of SMN.

I usually get the thin airy lather from the LASSC soaps I have and find many other soaps I own to be superior performers both during and especially post shave which is why I have two of the three I own up for trade. Only reason I haven't put Topanga Fougere up is I love the scent. Anyone know of another Fougere that has a scent that is similar?

Both are very slick while soap is present, but is not so great in the residual slickness after.

Xpec is worth trying, SMN would be more of a im-out-of-other-things-to-try territory.

The residual slickness of both XPEC & SMN are off the charts for me. Since getting XPEC I'm not wanting to use anything else.

I'll do another test lather tonight. when loading the brush with either a damp brush or with the soap being bloomed prior to lathering, the lather was incredibly sudsy.

I should have mentioned my experience with LASSCo has exclusively been with the "black shaving soap formula" the formula with the activated charcoal. Not sure if it lathers differently than the other formulas. Any one have experience with both?
