ECLIPSE RED RING SAFETY RAZOR - TYPE W - MODEL 1932

I just received my Eclipse Red Ring a week ago Friday. I promptly disinfected it in alcohol, washed it in tap hot, soapy water and cleaned the handle with Silvo. There is no red ring. I do not know if it ever had one or not. There was no box.

The head is chrome. The handle is brass with "Eclipse" on one side and "Red Ring" on the opposite side. When I unscrew the knob a shaft attached to it comes out of the handle making it a three piece razor intentionally or not. A little round magnet is inlaid into the tip of the handle. It is low powered. The razor blade jumps up to the magnet but it is easy to remove the blade without jerking it. Thus there is no danger of injury to the user.
It can be adjusted by five stops after which the head becomes a little loose. It certainly provides a large degree of adjustment.

I was going to paint the ring red with nail polish and a toothpick. However, I decided to do some more research on the razor before I inadvertently gave it some decoration that it should not have. I found that about 50% of them did not have the ring painted red so I held back. I also found that the Type W might be incorrect. Its year of birth, 1932 is right. It also happens to be my birth year.
Obviously I must do some more research to fill out my knowledge of this fine instrument.

My first shave with it Saturday morning was with with a Wilkinson blade and Real Shaving Cream ( thus ensuring all three important components could work harmoniously together in English) was unwittingly set at number two position. I can honestly say it would rank as one of the closest smoothest most comfortable shaves I have ever had.

I am a confirmed single edge shaver. I use Rolls Razors, Schick Injectors and the extraordinary GEMS.
Now I am teetering on the edge of apostasy.

My cost including Canada to US exchange, and shipping was $135.76 CAN.

This excellent site has already proved invaluable. My thanks to all for the advice and encouragement and especially to bakerbutcher who put me on the right track..
