Knot replacement

Hi All.  It has been awhile.

I have two questions.

1]  What is the best website for buying knots?

2]  How does one remove a knot from a brush?  Sometimes mere boiling water will melt the glue, but some glues will not melt in that manner.  Does anyone know what the  next step is?

The golden nib sells some really good knots. I have used a dremel for mine because I don’t own a drill press and this method works fine you just have to go at it slow. Look up Shave brush restoration on youtube done by kensurfs it’s what helped me when I did my first one.

Lots of answers! First off, my take on knots. I get them from several sources. The Golden Nib, Maggards, Whipped Dog, and several Etsy vendors. I haven’t found as much difference in knot vendors as I have between individual knots from the same vendor.

Next, removing knots CAN be done in a double boiler and steam them but I really don’t like this method unless I’m trying to salvage a knot. Some handles are easily ruined with shear/boiling water. I prefer cutting the old knot flush and drilling much of it out. Finish with a dremel tool to clean up and/or open the socket.

Knots I’ve really enjoyed:
Maggards badger/boar mixed
Maggards Black, biege, Black white all have been good
Maggards silvertip or two bans have been great.

Tuxedos are good (all colors)
Plisson type
Chashmere

Come to think of it I haven’t found a bad knot since one silvertip three years ago.

I damaged a lot of handles with dremel. Hot water helps me more.
