Just visited Pasteur

I live about 10 minute walk from Pasteur on 34th. I have not been there for a while but I was shocked when I went in. Their shaving area keeps expanding, and pretty quickly. They must have someone doing their homework because there are many new artisan soaps available. I'm impressed with these guys, especially since they resist having a website. They keep the mystique going. Hope you get a chance to visit. After your visit, have a pizza at Vezzo's on East 31st and Lexington.

My first response to this is---Pics or it didnt happen.

Then my second thought was to relate Pasteur's in NY and Smallflower/Merz in Chicago as the wetshaving Mecca and Medina, but then that would be culturally insensitive.

So then with full authority I must proclaim that all wetshavers must make a pilgrimage to these two places at some point in time. I might even consider adding Old Town Shaving in California to this list. I hope to visit them some time before I expire. At least for the chance to stare at a collection of shave goodies in real life, that is bigger than my own.

So, if life expectancy for males is 80 yrs, I got 37 more yrs to get to them, eventually.

I found Merz/Q Brothers to be a bit more organized, well displayed and the folks there a bit more knowledgeable vs Pasteur's (akin to Nordstrom's VS Macy's)... But there's a charm in the treasure hunt with Pasteur's and I wouldn't change it for the world.

I have ordered from Smallflower/Merz often. It is indeed a great source of shaving goods. I'm ashamed to say that I have never been to Chicago, but when I do, Merz is on my agenda.

I visited Pasteur's on 34th today. Thought I might treat myself to a new soap but ended up with an aftershave instead. The problem with visiting Pasteur's is trying not to feel embarrassed as I spend an inappropriate amount of time looking through every item on the shelves.

I would add Maggard Razors store to that list too. Very cool place to visit!

Don't feel bad... I got to Pasteur's almost weekly lately and I spend at least an hour, even two - sniffing and snorting everything. The sad thing is, I often buy something just so I don't leave empty handed. It's either a) I have too much already, or b) there's too much I don't. :p
