Do you prefer posts and threads that are out on the open board for all to see and participate, or people using the forum as the location for their personal blog with their journals?

I like open discussions that are out for all forum members to take part in without having to go to into the individual hidey holes.
Boar brushes, brass razors, and hard pucks ARE traditional wet shaving. Everything else is modern day fluff for the girly men.

It's like the blues, the best stuff comes from dead guys.

Personally, it depends on what I'm posting. I post a good amount in the general threads, as well as take part in the creation of new ones.

However, I also find there's a use for journals. For me, its more personal. It is a good place to blather on (which I excel at, let me tell you, lol) without crowding the general forum. I'm sure I have an 'adequate' life, but i won't pretend it is so exciting that everyone is going to want to read all about it (that's why I don't do FB, Twitter, etc). It's also a great place to post a quick question without adding more topics that will only last 3 or 4 posts max. I think, from that standpoint, Andrew et.al can appreciate the usefulness.

As I said when I started my journal... I'm not very good at keeping up on it. I've put in an honest effort, but it does and will continue to have spells of disuse. Still, I think the reason it has done so well is the great folks who participate. I believe keeping a journal solely for my own purposes is mad. I'd be better off keeping it offline then, if I didn't want the response (help, encouragement, etc). That's exactly where it has excelled for me. Great friends, good help, and some comrauderie.

I guess it's just nice to have freedom and choices. That's my 2¢.

Exactly why I like keeping a Journal here. No one is interested in my "deep thoughts" and I won't pretend that even the people who read my journal are looking for answers to life's shaving questions! The general forum is where content specific posts land. Content specific to me lands in my journal.

The journal threads have worked out well in my opinion.  As a moderator I was originally a little apprehensive about them because I thought they may wind up being exclusive and cliquey but it hasn't worked out that way.  The general threads are where you talk about general stuff specific to whatever the thread is about and you try to stay on the topic.  The journals are where you go to catch up with and hang out with your friends, old and new.  You can talk about anything, maybe dive deeper on your SOTD or talk about some of the stuff thats going on in your life.  I think they've been a positive development on DFS. I appreciate hearing that, Marko! It's like a front porch or living room, or in the garage or whatever. Just talking about life, shaving, and having a good time!

That’s exactly how I see it. It makes for a more personal experience also rather than just an exchange of information.
