As I mentioned, I'll be adding a ton of content, so please don't be alarmed at the amount of stuff showing up in the RSS, Facebook and Twitter feeds over the next couple of weeks.

google ranks sites higher that use https than those that do not. if you want to add an extra layer of protection, especially when it comes to spam bots, you could do cloudflare, let's encrypt & your blog. both cloudflare and let's encrypt are free.

I run a pretty tight ship on my own server, so I wouldn't have much use for Cloudflare, but free SSL is worthwhile, no doubt. I wouldn't have popped for a cert from the big'uns as they're a rip-off and I don't have much need for it... But higher Google ranking is a good reason.

I've developed a script to run on my Mac which lets me convert from Google+ markup to HTML in a single click, operating from the clipboard. Basically, copy, double-click icon, paste. Done! So migrating content has sped up dramatically... Woohoo!

Whew! Except for this week's five SOTDs, I have all of 2016 migrated now. Still have to do some tweaking on the individual posts to link them together, etc. but I'm stoked at the progress. Next up... 2015!

Cool site! So are you ditching Google+ entirely?

Thanks so much! When I post on my site, it gets automatically posted to Twitter and Facebook as well. Alas, I can't do that with Google+ - but I will continue posting, just manually. But rather than have the content there (as it is now) I will post a link to the site. Thanks to rich metatags, the post image and teaser will be shown.
