To me, just the name oozes luxury – Acqua di Parma Collezione Barbiere.
It sounds like something one might use on a hot Sunday morning in August. The house is humid despite the AC running just before you put on your Sunday finest, hop into your Ferrari, and head to Grandmas house for Sunday Night Pasta.
It’s hard to find reviews of ADP. If you think MdC is expensive, don’t even bother to look at ADP. Although a bit cheaper than its Milanese brother, Antica Barbieria Colla, I would never consider this a work horse. This is a Sunday driver for when you take the Ferrari on the long hot and hazy summer weekend.
Why summer? Some might think the current version has no scent but they would be wrong. It has a very light, sublime scent of lemon and basil, just right to go with the antipasto with that Sunday Night Dinner. There is a touch of cooling menthol, not an ice bath like TOBS Peppermint but just the right touch to cool the face.
A tiny bit of this shaving cream explodes in lather, much like MdC. And it is a rich, creamy, luxury lather with excellent face feel. It just feels rich. When it touches your face, you just know its luxury. Cushion is superb resulting in very close shaves. I used it this morning and many hours later, I can tell its still almost BBS. Slickness and residual slickness are both excellent. Not the best in that ABC soap might be a bit slicker but still excellent. If there is any downside to this soap it might be that I wish the scent were stronger but that is just my personal preference. I do not consider this the crème de la crème but it is at the very top and priced accordingly. It has cheaper peers and there is one better (of course YMMV) but still, this is elite stuff.
And so if it’s a hot and hazy Summer morning, the humidity up, the sun shining bright, then break out the ADP and treat yourself to a wonderful morning shave with a touch of menthol using an elite product smelling fresh and clean. Then hop into that Ferrari of yours and head down the coast. You can skip Grandma’s house and head maybe north, up to Monte Carlo and hit the casino. I doubt you will be disappointed.
On a more serious note, I do not yet have enough data to understand the cost/shave and am working on that. However, I suspect its not cheap and I might not be able to buy gas to get home … Yup, its that's expensive but since its a cream and a tiny bit goes a LONG way, I guess I'll see. Now to find that gas station ...
