Does anyone have opinions on ILR stones for finishing? It seems that a good size 15k can be had for about $50. I was thinking of irdering one this weekend, but I wanted to check in here and see if there was a consensus on them.

Any input y'all might have is definitely appreciated!

No first-hand experience with it, but I heard that the first run of stones they did were nice, while the subsequent ones were not as consistent. Those who have a good one seem to really like them a fair bit, though!

I have a black 8-10 ILR and the grey 12-15k.
The finer grit stone is meh, but the 8-10 is my favorite stone, good feedback and a pleasure to use. The 12-15k has a chalky feel to it that almost gives me the willies.

Well, I just ordered an Imperia la Roccia 12-15k finisher. For only $60 including shipping, it will be very difficult to lose. Even if I hate it, I can sell it to someone that likes them and recover most of my cost, but all indications point to this being a really decent entry-level natural finisher, so I pulled the trigger. I need something after my 10k Naniwa to put a pretty polish on my edges...

We shall see...

Let us know what you think of the ILR finisher after you've had a go with it. I've been going back and forth about getting one. It would be good to get another take on it.

I will do that! I actually have a couple razors just waiting for it...

I have no doubt that it will take a little time and a few tries to begin to understand the nature of the stone and what it needs to perform well. There are a couple of videos out there with people using them, so Im going to check a few of those out before my first run with it...

Got home last night, and ran my new-to-me Rogers on the ILR that was patiently waiting for me...

I just picked up this razor over the weekend, set the bevel, and honed up to 10k, then stropped on balsa with Chromium and iron oxide pastes. It shaved cleanly. Very nice...

I ran it on the ILR last night, and it still shaved cleanly and very easily mowed through my stubble, but it was WAY more comfortable than previously. It was really almost shocking how smooth it was.

I am really happy I picked up this stone. I'm actually considering the 8-10k they also offer, just to have a natural intermediate stone...see how that works...

Alright. You sold me on it. Will definitely get one now. Thanks for telling us about it!

Sure thing!

I actually ran my favorite razor, Allegheny Instruments 5/8 near wedge, on the ILR tonight. This razor has always shaved really close and really smooth. Even IT was improved with the ILR, in less than 30 laps.

This stone gets really sticky, really fast. By refreshing the water and decreasing the pressure each time it gets sticky(literally every 6-8 laps), the edge gets wicked sharp and smooth, very quickly. When the blade was starting to stick within 1 or 2 laps, I called it good. VERY nice edge...
