Those are two of the nastiest razors in my stable.

They definitely don't play nice in the sandbox!

I think I got comfortable with the Ikon because I hadn't tried other razors to know better. I couldn't go back now.

There are so several alternatives to the Ikon Tek that deliver the same results but do it much more comfortably, that I have used. Charcoal Good L3, Wolfman WR2 in anything above a 1.45 or any Rocnel Sailor. I've not use the other razor you mentioned so I'm really little help here.

If you like shaving with razor that have big gaps, and high blade exposure, it is time for you to try a straight razor. That is a big a blade gap as you can get.

I would suggest to try a small gap that knows how to work it Wink  my suggestion is the legendary Blackbird.

I have tried more than one straight razor and didn't care for them.

There's nothing wrong with getting comfortable with one razor. If it shaves well for you, and you're happy with the results... That's a win. You don't need to use a new razor every other shave or every other week ... Or at all.

You do what works for you. That's all that matters.

Totally agree, but I was missing out on better options in my case.

Yeah, I roll them out every year or two to see if their disposition has improved.  Nope.

I’ve had somewhat the same experience with wives.
Every 7 to 24 years I try again.
I have a tendency to become attached to the ones with difficult dispositions…
Even after some polishing?
