That is certainly an impressive collection! Thanks for sharing.

Pairing down is a novel concept. I just put up shelves to help clear off my sink counter; two shelves, but I've already ordered a 3rd as my shave collection is always growing.

Once I found a magical recipe a lot of gear went to friends and homeless vets. I have my Mergress, Paladin, Vie-Long and VP, MWF, Dusy Kabinette and Penhaligons scents. I never imagined owning such an assembly when that Merkur HD and best grade badger first arrived. I hope to add more Paladins, experience a Plisson and Kent and master a straight for my bucket list. Shaving is like breathing. You think you've exhaled product and all this other neat stuff gets inhaled.

Doc, I built a shave cabinet years ago after outgrowing a shelf. I began outgrowing the cabinet and considered building another. Then reality set in. Sure I would like to have more shave stuff, but for soaps I pretty much just use what I make. I can't remember the last time I used brand x soap. Same goes for any after the shave product... I use mine and it's been even longer since I used any other. Truth be told, I could significantly reduce my inventory. But then the cabinet would look empty and nature abhors a vacuum, I'd need to fill it again. So I'll just keep it the way it is now.

I should probably force myself to use a brand x soap once for every new SE blade. Maybe in 40 years I'll see fewer soaps in my cabinet at that rate.

Simpson 2 Band Aficionado
USA
(This post was last modified: 03-26-2017, 01:32 AM by German.)
I try not to count but my display shelves do not hold more than 55 brushes and I stay around that. Currently, I own approximately:
14 Simpson 2 Band from the famed 2011-13 period
6 Simpson Manchurian
4 Simpson Super 3 Band
2 Wiborg White Badger
1 M&F
2 Rooney Alibaba (one of each Heritage 2 and 3 Band)
6 Thäter (3 of each 2 and 3 Band)
2 Elite Manchurian
2 shavemac Silvertip 2 Band
3 Rudy Vey with TGN and shavemac knots
2 SV 2.0
The rest is a mix of other brands.
All are badger, but one horse and one boar brush (more to remind me why I don't like them as much as badger).
No synthetic. The ones I owned I sold.

Downsize ? That trick never works... Rubbermaid Roughneck, box of silica gel packets, and store then wherever you can. Never know when you might have a change of heart, or even worse the chance to get "the one" if only you only had that other one you sold to swap with.

I downsized also. Compared to what I used to have anyway.

10 brushes
about 20 DEs
3 straights
about 30 soaps

I'm perfectly happy with all of it and don't feel like I need to get rid of anything and it all fits into this small wall cabinet.

Nice cabinet! How many aftershaves? I don't see any of those there.

15 aftershaves and about 5 balms that I hadn't put up on top behind the brushes when I took this picture. I did win an unreleased soap from PAA in a contest that isn't here yet.
