I enjoy mid-range strength of scent in shaving soap. Some scents seem to be better even lighter, but I've had some soaps with very strong scent strength that have been irritating. I think that is a concern with making scents too strong.

I generally like soaps with strong scents of short duration, since I end my ritual with aftershave. But the scent of a soap is of less importance to me than its lathering qualities. I have had no skin irritation from scents.

I like a strong scent - I want to be able to enjoy the smell of my shave as well as the on the skin performance. One of my pet peeves is soaps that are marketed with all sorts of superlatives about the scent profile that show up essentially unscented. I also dislike artisans who will then argue with you that its your problem because they haven't received any other complaints allegedly. Yes I'm looking at you OSP. Thats ok though because right now the soaps I'm loving -B&M, WK, L&L, T+S, Stirling, Reef Point, all have scent in spades.

Ha-ha.. I didn't know this happened with you and OSP. Yeah I agree, I like lighter scents but when they write all these nice and fancy notes in there, I expect them to be there.

Oh Reef Point, their Submariner.. it's just really underrated. Really good stuff.

European shave soaps are by nature more subtle, whereas some American soaps can be like men's "Powerhouse" colognes of the 70's & 80's. I like a strong good scent just as much as the next fella, but that is secondary to performance. I can only imagine what my grandfather would have said about my using many different soaps....

Secretary Ramsey put his foot into it yesterday . . . in the course of his remarks he said that California “needs water and better society.”  “So does h-ll,” yelled someone in the crowd.

We here in America love everything big Smile Funny you mention those big frags. I'm learning a lot about them these days.

Not to sidetrack this thread, and I may have mentioned this before, but — OSP Neroli. That’s where it’s at. (Where else is it at? In your face, the moment you open that jar.) Smile

Whenever I go to shave, I assume there’s someone else on the planet shaving, so I say “I’m gonna go shave, too.”

I think the term in those days would have been Nancy Boy or maybe something a little kinder such as "that boy ain't right" Big Grin

I have a puck of tabac sitting in bowl for the past year in a room, it's been lathered twice but still smells the same, with the same outward notes as the puck I use in my den! I would rate the scent at 10!

I also notices some soaps seem to have a more diffusive scent right off the puck (which I think distorts how strong a scent is) but they're assuring, in the same way a first manly handshake is Smile but some soaps only release their scents once lathered.

I too prefer a stout scent. I wish all shaving soaps were as strong as Tabac. There is nothing like lathering up for that second and third pass and have the lather smell every bit as strong as it did when it first came off the puck. That is rare for me and I prefer those types of soaps:

Tabac
Saponoficio Varesino Felce Aromatica
Stirling Iced Pineapple/Black Cherry/Sandpiper

Bowl me over with scent.

EDIT: I just saw that someone mentioned Reef Point Submariner, that is a STOUT soap and its one of my personal favorites.

Yes, Reef Point has decent soaps, performance is very good and the scent....I have Submariner and Dragon's Blood which I really like and Test Depth which is an ok scent but pretty mild. I have Admiralty in balm and its an excellent scent too . I agree that they don't get the love they deserve.
