Since I ordered two razors at $40 US each, the total for my order was $80 US. Henson Shaving does not charge shipping for orders at or above $100 Canadian. $80 US is equal to approximately $106 Canadian...therefore I did not have to pay anything for shipping. No taxes either. Buying 2 or more creates the best deal.
Based on previous reviews, it seems nearly impossible to cut yourself with this razor. After I confirm the "safety" of this razor, I plan to purchase several more for gifts to people I will help get into DE wet shaving. This razor may be the "entry razor answer", for the masses.

So anyone able to opine how this compares to my new daily choice... the MJ90A (which is just an ever so slightly more efficient de89)?

From what I'm reading this should provide a shave equivalent to my GC 84, but I wonder if I will still be able to shave with reckless abandon like I do on the 90A? I can do 3-4 passes, followed by an extensive cleanup without irritation. Even the GC 68 only allows minor cleanup before it starts to irritate. Of course, with that blade gap, I'm not picturing as much cleanup being needed. Still, I guess my focus is: will it actually be as smooth, forgiving as the 90A / DE89?

Got a fairly quick shave in this morning. The razor has remarkably little blade feel and the angle is sort of pre-set due to the head design, very easy to use. Extremely light, but still feels solid and the handle is a great length with good grip. Efficiency is pretty decent despite the mild feel. I didn't get BBS, but to be fair I didn't do any touch ups. No irritation, 1 minor weeper, all in all a really nice quick shave. A great razor for someone just starting out or if you're looking for a nice daily driver.

I used mine for the first time today, and found it to be somewhat inadequate.  I could not get a damn fine shave in just one pass, because of too little blade exposure.  It also left a trail of excised stubble behind it, which may have been because of the Wood Ridge Gel that I used for the first time.  I'll try it a few more times, but from the first impression, I don't think I'll keep it.

I hadn't thought about it before, but the flat head precludes the need for a stand. Nice!

1st post, came here just to review this razor.

Ordered August 22nd, delivered August 31st. Pretty quick from Canada to New Mexico.

But, the razor itself. Man o' man! I just started wet shaving about a month ago, using a Merkur 34C. With that razor I got decent shaves, or maybe generally okay if I didn't care about BBS and could live with a one or two pass shave. Most days I had a bit of burn, some days more than others. Okay, I'm new and still learning, but I'll admit this whole wet shaving thing was maybe harder and more painful than some have let on. Picking up the 34C was done with a bit of trepidation. But, if anything I'm stubborn and have vowed to continue.

But, I read an early review of this razor and my curiosity was piqued. Conversation with AQU persuaded me to give it a try. At ~$50 shipped I figured I didn't have that much to lose.

Today was my maiden voyage, 24 hours since my last (not very close) shave with the 34C. Yikes! I am not kidding, I did 3 passes with touch ups and have zero, I mean zero irritation. My face is so smooth I doubt I'll need to shave for at least 48 hours (not that I can't). Even those really difficult problem areas, say under my jawline are completely smooth. So, new to wet shaving, first outing with the Hensen, 3+ passes, closest shave I've had in like forever (cartridges included), zero, zip, nothing close to a problem. Stupid easy to use, impossible to mess up. The head design is optimized for the exact angle, and doesn't seem to cut if it's not right on. Means I can get the precise angel for beard reduction while making it impossible to do any damage if the angle isn't just so.

Now, I'd say categorically this is THE razor for beginners, or at least this beginner. Based on this morning's performance I'm inclined to wonder if I'll ever "graduate" to a more aggressive razor. I mean, why? I can get an absolutely perfect, BBS shave with zero issues, pain, burn, cuts, etc. Does this make me a wimp? Well, probably! Still, this is a brilliant product that gets my highest recommendation.

I guess I won’t end up with a backup then Smile. I’ll be interested to see what their aggressive players is like. There’s some smoothness to give, I feel. Glad you had such a great shave!

I, finally, ordered one, yesterday, after reading some good reviews, having a good price, being light-weight and Canadian-made. I plan on using it for my head shaves, so I figured with its mildness, it would be a good candidate. If it is overly mild, I'll use one or two shims to increase its aggressiveness.
I, highly, doubt that I'll use it for my face shaves, as I prefer more 'aggressive' razors.

Hey draebeard...Thanks for posting your findings.  I hope your next experiences with this razor turn out much better.  If they don't, Connect with Jonathan and arrange to send the razor back.  I will analyze it for any mechanical discontinuities and we can work out a solution.  For example, if the razor is found to measure within spec, I can make you a more aggressive version that suits you.  If it measures out of spec and I find a correlation to your poor experience, We can send you a new one or reimburse you.  What blade did you use?  In our research, some manufactures have decided to make a blade smaller in width than the standard..(just want to rule that out if it exists)
Also, is it mild or medium? (women or men)   Sorry if this is too forward, or premature...We can wait till you find a trend with the poor performance or rule that the wood-ridge labs is the culprit...

If I may, assuming you have the more aggressive version, (.002" exposure and .033" blade gap) your shim being a modified blade, (which is .004"), will make your exposure become .004" and the Blade Gap .038

I'm sure you're capable, but might as well say anyway, make sure the blade, whether it's modified or bought as is, spans across the bulk of the 2 contact strips on the base plate.  Seeing as ours are rather wide, a short shim might fall short of sitting in the right spot.  Smile
The shim width ought to measure minimum .620" and up to .700"
