I've been wet shaving since Christmas and realized that I've ended up with a few different brands.

I would say that my facial hair is course with sensitive skin. I seem to like a higher end mild to low end aggressive shave. I also change out my blades every three days.

With that being said, how would you rank the brands I have below in terms of sharpness, smooth shave and length of effective use?

Van Dee Hagen
Wilkinson Sword
Bic Platimum
Gillette 7 O'clock Green
Gillette Platimum plus
Astra Superior Platimum
Persona Platimum
Feather hi-stainless

Thanks for the feedback. I've been using the Astras for about two weeks now and plan to try the personna when I toss the current blade.

One thing I thought was cool is that when I was at the dermatologist a few weeks ago, the doc pulled out a DE blade to remove a small Basil spot. I checked out the package Ans saw it was a personna.

My other thought was "I wonder how many times they've cut themselves with the razors?" The doc just grabbed it by the sides and kinda bent it to make it use it as a scoop.

Coarse hair and sensitive skin! Lucky! I'm one of the truly lucky ones that have leather skin that never gets irritated. My son on the other hand, coarse hair/sensitive skin. Blades are the most subjective of all our gear but what he finds that works best for him are extremely sharp blades in a med/mild razor with a super slick soap. The Cade you like so much works ok for him but So does Stirling and Valobra. As far as the blades you posted, his one and only go-to blade is feather hi stainless for two uses on 2 pass shaves. I get only two uses from feather on my three pass shaves but Astra SP will do three.

To expand on a previous post, you blades can't be stack ranked as we all have different facial characteristics and what works well for one doesn't always work well for another.

Having said that, the brand that seems to get the most respect are from Gillette. They have a bunch of different brands. I really like the Feathers, though many have trouble with them. The Feathers are very, very sharp. For me, the lightest of light touches is needed with the Feathers.

Also expanding on a previous post, the soap matters as well. There are so many good ones, I can't name them all. Here are a few:

B&M
Stirling
Tabac

Special mention, Baum.be. Baum.be was formulated by a man with sensitive skin. The 200ml jar makes it very affordable.

People tend from the extreme of one shave toss blade to grubbing out beards by the roots on the last day of the month. Three days is to arbitrary and you are losing money, even if mere pennies better used on fancy colognes and such. Your first pass or two is actually honing the blade and bringing out it's best performance. After
that each brand has an average lifespan you will discover. My blades are like a racecar that starts slowing after a few laps until literally running out of gas.

Good point. I'm still trying to get this whole thing figured out.

I've enjoyed the Gillettes and started using the Astras for the last two weeks. The Astras feel sharper maybe so to me more efficient. I haven't tried the Feathers yet. I figure that I'll try those next week to see how they work.
