Heat and Soaps

Unless it's a melt and pour base, it really shouldn't melt. This statement may be my opinion, but it's based on my experience and knowledge.

I know this P&B issue and I was one of the first who experienced this...

The problem is that the soap left England in great condition, so extreme temperatures during shipping created that problem, when the soap became... cream. Otherwise, even with the less than effective curing process, the soap would have no problem.

I’m sorry that you, too, had to experience that — whatever the conditions that caused it. The ammonia-like scent (also described by some as the scent of cat urine) is not the thing you expect to greet you when opening a jar of shaving soap…

I never had a soap fully liquefy yet but I have had them melt enough that the contents of the tub slid to one side entirely.

I got two soaps from a PIF last week. They were sitting in front of my apartment in NJ for two days while I was away for vacation. When I came back, I found that the First Canadian soap was molten to the point that it was like a oily liquid with white large grains spread all over. I let it cool in room temperature for 1 day and then put it in refrigerator for ~40 minutes. Now it looks fine

Also the Tallow and Steel one became more like a dense cream (a bit firmer than Castle Forbes), but with similar treatment, now it shows tougher texture.

Update on the First Canadian Soap:

Today I took out the tub for a shave and found out that it has again become an oil like thing: if I tilt the tub 'soap' slowly flows and when I attempted to load it with a synthetic brush, I basically created a hole in the middle. I eventually smeared some over my face and lathered like I do with creams. It looks like somewhere between milk and cottage cheese.

Today I took out the tub for a shave and found out that it has again become an oil like thing: if I tilt the tub 'soap' slowly flows and when I attempted to load it with a synthetic brush, I basically created a hole in the middle. I eventually smeared some over my face and lathered like I do with creams. It looks like somewhere between milk and cottage cheese.

That's the first time I've seen that happen with a soap. I also live in a hot climate region. That one looks really liquified.

It happened to me with Caties Bubbles. Not in the mailbox but in my bathroom during the summer. It softened up quite a bit, to the point it was more like a cream. Eventually it hardened up again when it got cooler. I never complained about it to CB because the problem solved itself.
Never happened to any other soap and i would stop using it if it did.

You’re sure that’s not the tapioca pudding that was next to the soap that was cooling off in the fridge?

You’re sure that’s not the tapioca pudding that was next to the soap that was cooling off in the fridge?

After reading this, the soap looks yummy

I have reached out to the soap maker. He suggested leaving the lid open for a few days.

Let's see how that goes.

I hope leaving the lid off will help even out the soap’s consistency. Also, try to refrain from tasting the soap!
