Health safety of trading partially used soap

I would think that the money that we all handle on a daily basis is 100 times more contaminated with germs & bacteria than any used shaving soap will ever be.

HIV dies outside the human body within hours. Hepatitis viruses survive a lot longer, up to around a week in dried blood on an environmental surface. Just to be somewhat safe, when I receive a used shaving soap, I use hot water to scrub off the surface, then let the soap dry in open air for 10-14 days. As has been pointed out, the least risky approach would be simply not to use soap from others, but that's too restrictive for me; I'm willing to accept the very small risk associated with my careful use of previously used shaving soap.

I saw a post before where this gent rubs some cotton with alcohol on top of the soap, lather, throw away the lather then drying completely before he uses it for the first time. Not sure if it helps but it makes sense in my mind I suppose.

I'm participating in a soap passaround right now, so I'm hoping that I'm not lathering up with little critters hiding in my brush.  

I was part of one of those the first year I was wet shaving....as soon as the box arrived, I took one look and closed it back up.  Never again.

There are wackos out there who put razor blades in candy, after all.   Better safe than sorry.

I'm not worried about that from established members.  I'm more worried about buying a razor from the guy who posted about fondling it while dropping a deuce.  Or the guy who boiled his used brush to sanitize it.  Or the guy who started a thread about lathering over his bloody face.  I could go on and on....

OMG. Like really.  

Brushes,razors and soaps I can sanitize,doesn't bother me at all.Seen a reference or 2 to eating utensils at restaurants.As a plumber by trade,if you think your favorite eatery will shut down when a water heater or sanitizer goes on the fritz,well you are sadly mistaken.Ask me why I seldom eat out.I could post things here that would have you guys never eating anywhere but home sweet home.

I worked in the past as an immunologist, caring for HIV/AIDS patients.
