Hi all, are there any razors like the Gillette New Improved from the 1920s in modern form?

I am no expert but I believe the Charcoal Goods razors are a modern update of these razors

I would say the Charcoal is closer to the New Deluxe (narrower platform, slanted transition to the guard, slots vs posts). Of which the Ikon Deluxe Open Comb is also a clone.

I can't think of a New Improved clone off hand. Wolfman type heads, like the Game Changer, adopt the wide flat platform but add additional clamping at the primary fulcrum which I think is actually a better design.

Thanks jmudrick, which razor is the one on the left? That looks really good! Is there an open comb version?

Game Changer 84. Closed comb only. I have three New Improved and two New Deluxe and no question the Game Changer gives a better shave for me .

Wow, nice! I couldn’t tell from the profile. Do you recommend the
.84 plate.

I love it . I have not tried the milder plate.

In my opinion the Gamechanger .84 baseplate is really smooth and efficient. When I tried the .68 baseplate, I was really disappointed in it. I found my Mamba to be a tiny bit more efficient. My vintage Gillette tech gave me closer shave than the .68 plate.

Another comparison: Karve baseplate and New Improved (Tuckaway). Pretty darn close. The fancy profile of the Karve kinda obscures the similarity. There is a big difference in blade gap, I have not used the mild plates for the Karve which might be closer in that regard to the NI. [Image: 4fe51011e6bcb869416dedf205bdd306.jpg]
