Living on the edge
I just lightly flick the tip of the hairs against a towel...up/down, side to side and diagonally.
half a dozen times. there's no need to mash the brush forcefully on a towel.

Flick the water out (hold on to your brush....as it may slip out of your hand ... I had one slip and cracked my sink...the handle was fine, though) and then brush lightly over a towel - lightly is the word here. I do this for so many years and never had any issue. I believe it is the normal procedure for drying a brush. The stand it up or hang it from a stand, never put a moist brush in a cabinet or such before it is not completely dried out.

I've also been doing this for many years without any damage.

Lord, I still see this and it makes my eyes bulge and want to scream, "DON'T DO THAT!"

The expert has spoken! Interesting to me that you are ok with standing the brush up. While I understand how evaporation works, with so many knots increasing in density, I sometimes feel that if I don't hang the brush then the water will never evaporate.

I've been pretty rough on my $12 Plissoft over the 5 years I've had it, so it's starting to look a little ratty. I'll go easier on the next one.
