I have a Semogue 610 that was a Christmas gift in 2016. I’m guessing it has about 50-60 shaves on it. I keep trying to use it to see what all fuss is about and I just don’t get it. It needs to be reloaded at least once every shave, the lather takes at least twice as long to make as my synthetics, and face feel is no where near as luxurious as my synthetics.
Should I try a 1305, 830, or SOC before totally writing off the boar thing?

Just send the 610 to me! So what’s up here? I own the 610 and 830 and a few of the Omega offerings too. Additionally I own numerous badgers and synthetics. Synth hands down is the fastest BUT the boar and badger offer things that synth can’t. I love boar but need to note that to get a boar to perform for me means about double the load time. If I spend time on the puck I can get through a three pass Shave easily. Two methods work well for me with boar. Take a dripping wet brush to the puck and load while building lather on the puck OR squeeze the water out, load heavy, and add water back while lathering. Good luck.

Do you soak the brush in warm water for about 5 minutes before loading? Boars need to be soaked. Badgers and synthetics don't.

Always soak the brush while I’m in the shower.

Get an Omega. Hate Semogues I think they make pitiful tiki torches and that's about it

With the cost and performance of today's synthetics, starting out only a fool would give a boar brush a second look.

I can't be bothered with the break-in process on a boar brush, personally.

I second Omega brushes. And the one that I have found to be super soft is the Connaught Omega with the faux jade handle. Out of the box, the tips are super soft. It has become one of my favorite brushes. The handle is nice and smooth and shiny and has some weight to it. It's a nice solid brush that performs incredibly well.

I've been thinking the samething. I used a badger brush for years.  Then started picking up synthetics a few years ago but never boar. A few months ago I saw a Semogue in a clearance sale and thought what the hell I'll give it a try. That brush is awful!

Not a fan either. Had a Semogue, went thru all the gyrations to break it in. Soaked and palm lathered every other day. The tips did end up splitting and it got softer but there were still hard pokey boar hairs that seemed like they would never go away. Gave it to my buddy. He loves the damn thing.
