I've tried a few different blades lately (because I've been changing the 'fleet' of razors).
I've ended up with a funny wee collection, some good...some sad.
Discovered Kai blades! Hey, these are nice. Slightly dearer (extra $5NZ) per 100 than Feathers.
The Feathers were my best blade but the Kai have taken their place.
Feathers now 2nd place and I won't replace them when they are all gone.
Then I have the usual suspects...Gillette Yellows, Greens, Blacks, Nacets, Rubies, Minora, Platinum, GSB, Astra Blue & Green, Lab Blues (not a bad blade though I know some of you don't like them).
Have some I won't use and would gladly give away to members but I'm in New Zealand so sadly the postage cost isn't worth it. I'll probably just trash them.
These include Polsilver SI, and the older Polsilver (brown and gold box...I still have some of them from years ago), Gillette Thin (Thailand...don't even consider these as a gift if someone wants to give them to you), Rapira, Perma-Sharp, Personna Platinum, and Vikings Sword (not a nice blade).
Some of my 'don't use now' blades seemed OK in my older (and milder) razors but no good with the current fleet.
Will I get down to just one or two makes/models of blades? Maybe one day.
I'm OK with the Kai, the Gillettes (various...prefer St Petersburg, Russian made), the Feathers (good...but Kai better), and the Lab Blues (just bought another 100).

I have right around 20 different blades in stock now:

Astra SP
Astra SS
Rapira Swedish Supersteel
Rapira Lux
Lab Blues
Ladas
Isreali Reds
Voskhod
Sputnik
Feather
Derby Extra
Gillette Yellows
Gillette SB
Polislvers ( old )
Polsilvers ( new )
Dorco 301
Dorco 301 Primes
Shark Chrome
Lord Plats
Lord Racer
Shark Stainless
Various store brand Personnas and Dorcos

Some I've bought over the past 8-9 years and I don't like much so they don't get used. Some really shine in a specific razor. Some I'm just working through stock I have on hand but won't reorder. I'm moving toward just having a few different blades just to simplify but it will still probably be around 4-5 kinds eventually.

It is interesting how our taste in blades evolves/shifts over time.  Partly its the razor and also dare I say...technique and also the evolution of soap and pre-shave products that allows a formerly over aggressive blade/razor to be somewhat tamer and more approachable.  Grooming Dept.'s Moisturizing Pre-Shave has made almost any soap perform respectably in my opinion.  I even had a decent shave with Ogallala Bay Rum soap.  While I may still nick myself from time to time I haven't really had any significant irritation issues since that stuff came along.

I too have a significant number of blades that I once liked and now never use.  Its mostly a function of the razor I use.  I used to use the EJ DE89 exclusively and I like certain blades in combination with that razor.  Now the Rockwell 6s is my daily razor and I like different blades with it.  I'm using primarily Polsilver SI and Feather with the Rockwell  Big Grin One man's trash is another man's treasure as they say.

Being an incorrigible cheapskate , I can't bring myself to throw out blades even though I'm certain I'll never use them.  What I've been doing is putting together blade sampler packs for giving to those people that I know (locally) that are just starting out on their shaving journey.  I'll throw in a few of my favourite blades too so they can get exposure to as broad a sample set as possible.  I've given away a few EJ-DE89s as well.

You hit on a good point. Some of my blade collection was purchased at a time when I used different razors every day, and while they were good in those handles they can be less so in my current daily drivers now. I still load one up from time to time in the older razors, but they tend not to get used often. if you've purchased 100 blades at some point but only use 5-10 a year from that stash it can take a while for that stock to disappear.

Like you I am trying to PIF some of the older blades I just don't use often.

I Pretty Much Have A Hundred or So Of Every Blade, Name It! But I have What I would consider a "Stash" of Just My Regulars:

Astra 3000
Permasharp 3000
Feather 2000
Nacet 2000

And Just Recently Scored What I consider To Be The Best Of Any Blade I've Tried:

Wizomet St. Petersburg, Russia, NOS. About 2000

These Are The Best Blades IMHO... And 5 Changes Are Enough To Keep My Beard Confused, and from Getting Used To Anything.

I have about 1500 blades total. Not as many as some on here but my stash is growing. I only shave 3 days a week and change to a new blade every week. So right now I have about 29 years worth of blades. I'm so thankful my wife doesn't frequent these forums. [Image: b1df8c52b3203c70d2ab437228051153.jpg]

I love blade posts like this one!

Last I checked...if I get 15 uses per blade, and shave 200 times a year, I had just over 45 years worth of Personna 74s, Wilkinson Light Brigades, and Wilkinson London Bridge blades (my three favorite types).  Since then I have added a couple more...I should do an inventory of what I have on hand.

Moot anyhow though...I have switched to straight razors.  Good to have options I suppose!

I probably have 20-25 different blades in my collection. I have 100 packs of about 10 of those blades. I use about 100 blades a year if I shave with my DE razors alone. However, I also have straight razors, so I should have enough blades to last the rest of my life.
