Quick update as I slurp my morning gruel before heading out to work.
mrdoug, this shoat worked very well for 2 passes today, and I skipped the soak. I just dipped about halfway up the knot, then loaded like a fool for 60+ seconds, adding a couple of dips. Did some building in the scuttle, maybe another dip or two, then to the face for lathering. Very nice on the first pass, almost too thick for me, so I "swiped" some into the scuttle for pass 2. By that pass, I had plenty and it looked right. 3rd pass required a squeeze to get enough for the look I like. I did not have to return to the puck, and I didn't really notice any other differences of a quick dip and load versus soak and load.
I also lost 3 fibers, but that is most likely due to some selective trimming I did yesterday, removing 9 big, black, and stiff bristles. I still have some in the knot, but they aren't gnarly looking and some are actually showing split ends!
