Hi all,

We're back for another year of participation in Movember to help raise awareness and money for men's health issues!  Since we started doing this in 2015, we've raised over $6,900!!!

With the idea of getting the forum involved, I reached out to all of the merchants on the forum to see if they'd donate some shaving supplies that will be broken up into several different lots and offered up to whoever agrees to donate the most money for each given lot.  We're going to do 4 lots for Movember, plus one for the best mustache, with each new lot starting on a Sunday, in a new thread.  So far we've had several merchants agree to donate shaving supplies to help raise money.

In addition to doing the lots like we always do, we've decided to team up with Andrew (Viking) of Viking Soaps to produce a custom shaving brush that'll be available for purchase on November 1st and shipping by mid to late November. A portion of the money from the brushes sold will be donated directly to our DFS Movember team page as well as a smaller percentage being donated to TJ's Travel Funds & Care Packages to help kids and families with leukodystrophy.

Here's a list of merchants that have agreed to donate products to the forum (I'll add to it as more respond to me):

All,

Below are the specs & photos of the brush that we're doing with Viking of Viking Soap. Up to 40 of these brushes are going to be made, but no more than that. You'll have your choice of a bulb or fan knot with the specs mentioned below.

$105 shipped for these brushes:

- 63mm handle height
- 26mm bulb or fan knot (Viking calls these knots Odin's Beard, which is very similar to a SHD knot)
- ~49mm loft (fan)
- ~50mm loft (bulb)

I'll speak with Andrew with Viking to see what works good with him.

Hey all! I want to chime in with a few additional details on the brushes.

Andrew and I talked about trying to capture the colors of the forum with the white, blue and black and that obviously is reflected in the swirled base and solid black top.

I will admit up front that I am a free wheeler when it comes to making brushes, so each one will have some slight differences, which will make them all unique. The will have the same dimensions and overall shape that are listed/shown above, but you can expect some variability in them, particularly in the swirl pattern. When I cast the resin for the bottom part of the brush, I start with the same ratios of blue:black:white in each one (1.5 parts blue, 1 part white, 0.5 parts black roughly), but when it gets combined poured into the mold, that's where the fun happens and the differences occur. I'll post some pictures along the way of the casting process and the final brushes so you can see how a few of them differ as I progress.

Thanks to Andrew and DFS for asking me to be involved in this collaboration, I love the cause and am very happy to be a part of it! I think you will be very happy with the brushes and the knots - as Andrew stated, they are nearly identical to the SHD knots that are popular in various outlets these days. I have been blown away by the quality of these knots and have received great feedback on them so far.

If there's any questions regarding the process or anything else, please feel free to ask.

Here are a few pics from casting some handles tonight. The first pic is of the top part of the handle being cast onto the already-cured bottom. You can see how variable the bottom blend is just by looking at the tops of the handles in the molds.

Second is the bottom part of the handles getting ready to be cast. You can see the three colors mixed up ready for blending and pouring. There is pearlescense in both the white and blue resin.

They're all in the pressure pot now overnight. After the come out of there, they'll probably need an additional day or so to fully cure before I start drilling and shaping them.

These are being made from polyester resin in case anyone is curious.

Here's a picture of recently completed ones to show some of the variability in color blend and shape. A unique group with individual differences - doesn't get much more limited edition than that! [Image: 2a9d0ec3b418eb710c1d1d23ec085b8c.jpg]
