Nice post Rob. I too get the lavender and cedarwood with the orange somewhat in the background. It's a great scent. I sent Larry a jar of Phoenix and Beau some 6 months ago and he said he thought it was a very good soap. This is a softer soap more in line with other soap makers than his Select versions, especially the early V1's which were hard soaps. It's a different soap than the recent Select and a clear improvement. Probably in the top 3 of artisans these days along with Jabonman & Mike's for me.
I started this thread about a sale on the Select V2 products in December. Well, I have had 5 shaves with 3 of the new scents and as I said above thought it was a clear improvement.
I have to retract that a bit in that I am realizing now I am more partial to the Select V2 when doing a side by side comparison two days in a row. The lather and post shave seem a notch below the Select for me and I prefer the V2 prep. The presentation is an improvement but I'm having trouble, having had a little more time with the new base, noticing an improvement. Just an observation. Still a tier 1 soap.
My favorite soap continues to be Mike's Natural. I still have yet to find a soap which tops it.

Thanks for the honest observations. I have no doubts it is still a tier 1 soap, but when every reviewer says it is so much better than the last version it starts to sound a lot like fanboy mentality. For some it will be better no doubt, but nice to hear some balance in the reviews.
I love Mike's as well, though sometimes I wish he would expand into some other types of scents.

Yeah, this soap maker & Barrister seem to have their ardent fans. Just soap at the end of the day. The lack of air bubbles in Mike's I have yet to find in any other lather. Hopefully he might venture into new scents someday. I guess I'm just a bit tired of so many artisan reformulations...to what end.

Great reminder. I finished the Dark Fall (soap goes fast) and have some Marshlands left. Really great viscous, clingy lather if that makes sense. L&L is great stuff!
Grim, I don't know. Hype? Sometimes the CRSW's, B&M's, the new Desmond Barrows, Fitjar and on...get that tier 1 tag & it sticks. I'm guilty of throwing it around. The Haslinger hangs right there with them but feels like the younger brother tagging along (even though it has a rich history.)
