How’s the silversmith holding up after all this time and new razor releases?

I see they sell just the head at the moment.
After picking up the Yates Precision Razor I sold the Siversmith as the YPM was as smooth but more efficient

I used Colonial Razors Silversmith some time ago.
I borrowed it from a local friend.
I immediately liked the aesthetics.
But I found it unbalanced.

This often happens to me with steel or brass razors.
The material is too heavy, and a sufficiently long shape produces a marked weight and balance with respect to the head.

So as always I do, I change the handle.
This head is heavier than others, so I haven't used my usual aluminum handle.
I tried first a medium handle by Edwin Jagger, then a decidedly full-bodied aluminum Chinese.
In both cases the result was better than the original.
A little better with the short.

I must say that I liked the Silversmith.
Sweet but effective, and a very pleasant line.
The strong point is the comfort, which is remarkable.

But it was not enough to make me evaluate the purchase.
I have similar results with much cheaper tools.

On the other hand it is very photogenic.

So I’ve been using the Silversmith on a regular basis for several months and it remains one of the most comfortable yet efficient razors I’ve owned. That said, I am a daily shaver and the other razor in my den is a DLC Lupo. I’ve used the Silversmith with a Wizamet blade and it’s been a perfect pairing for me. I’ve cycled through many “mild yet efficient” razors and the Silversmith has continued to consistently perform wonderfully. I would def recommend it to others.

Agreed! Out of all the razors ive used including the tatara, karve, gamechanger, wolfman wr1, lupo, homelike start, rockwell it's the absolute smoothest. Been testing it daily with the tatara and gamechanger and find them all to be similar in efficiency but the silversmith is noticeably smoother and more comfortable for sure. Glad it works so well for you. Definitely want to try wizamets sometime. I think perma sharps work best in it for me aswell as quite a few other blades. Seconded on reccomending it. Especially for the price! It's quality and a great value. Stoked for the new handle.

Well I picked up the Colonial General again on the BST, must say it is very smooth, mild feeling, but delivers an easy 3 pass BBS. Glad I picked it up again, as I find myself getting better enjoyment from milder razors that still deliver great results.

ALI The Silversmith is definitely a razor with minimal blade feel but it delivers a 3 pass BBS.  I would put it on the opposite side of a Blackbird IMHO, which I know you enjoy.

If you like Carbon Original, H&S N075 or GC84, you will probably like it.
Blade feel more than H&S but less than Carbon, close to GC84, or Charcoal Everyday.
I found Colonial slightly more efficient than N075. It is a good daily razor, if you prefer mid-aggressive ones.
