Choices(away from your den)

Hey folks,I was just packing for a short trip just now,and was standing in front of my vast choices of shave gear choosing what would make its way into the dopp bag.
Be it vacation,business or whatever,what travels with you?
As I was making my choices my main criteria was,only the gear that gives the most trouble free shaves makes the trip.Looking,looking,this is my holy grail but it is very finicky,albeit with a little work and the planets are aligned gives up the shave of shaves.Nope I need the work horse gear,what in here gives up the most trouble free with minimal effort shave,not bbs but very much acceptable?

I don't do much traveling throughout the year, but when I do, and when I go camping, I take these items:

* Weber DLC
* Iridium Super
* synthetic brush (nowadays, it is the Chubby 2)
* Mystic Water soap (any scent in shave stick form)
* unrefined shea butter
* bergamot/vetiver EO

For travel I keep it simple.

I just went on a week long camping trip, which made it rather daunting to try and figure out what I was going to need, what I was actually going to be able to use(Given I had no idea what the facilities would be like before arriving there), and what was going to alloow me to stay comfortable without causing unnecessary trauma or drama....

In the end, I brought a new-to-me 1924 Shovelhead(simply because it was smaller than my G-Bar and easier to pack), a couple GEM PTFE blades, Stirling 24mm finest badger, and a tub of B&M Latha Lavenda. These are realiable pieces of kit that always provide a good shave with no trouble and little effort.

Needless to say, I was so caught up in the RC crawling activities that occupied the better part of 15-18 hours per day for the whole week, I only ended up shaving 3 times for the week. I missed a few days, as it was simply more enjoyable to walk around the woods in the middle of the night playing with toy trucks.

The gear I brought worked well for the 3 shaves I had. I scalp lathered, and the facilities were reasonable with both running water and mirrors, and even free showers, but the fact that there was close to 2000 people crammed into the campground made conditions less than ideal, despite the conveniences available.

* Shave stick of some sort, as long as it is good and stick. Sometimes a small tube of shaving cream instead.
* Omega boar travel brush
* Edwin Jagger DE89 in a leather travel pouch
* A pack of razor blades, or a fresh blade in the razor for shorter trips.

I tend to pick the gear that I don't mind if I lose, especially if I'm traveling by plane. I get a little more "risky" when traveling by car. But for the most part, I like to take:

Razor: either my Q-shave or a Schick Injector (I like these because I don't take the blades out after each use)
Soap: Proraso or CO Bigelow cream (about the only time I face-lather is when I travel and I find that much easier to do with a cream)
Alum Block: Maggards with the travel case
Brush: a Muhle synthetic
Witch Hazel: I use one of those small hotel shampoo bottles and fill it with Thayers
AS: usually take two or three sample bottles of Stirling AS and/or another hotel shampoo bottle filled with Osage Rub - it's nice to have at least a little variety on a trip

I don't have to travel for work so if it's for fun I may take time off from shaving otherwise something like this:

Mach 3 razor
Cremo
Post shave in non glass container (balm or splash)

I have to admit that when I travel, which is mostly by plane, I go with a Gillette Fusion or the like, a small can of gel, a small pot of balm, and several sample size bottles filled with some favorite eau de toilettes.  I tried sending blades by mail to my friends, which worked, but getting through security was a crap shoot, depending on the TSA agent and even with no blades in my bags, and listening to my friends' (male and female) cracks about how long I took in the bathroom took all the pleasure out of the shave.  If staying at a hotel in a new city, I don't want to have to go out and try to find DE blades.

When I did attempt to take gear, I took a basic razor that I knew would give me a good shave and that was a double of one I had at home so I wouldn't sweat it if it was lost, usually a Gillette NEW and/or a Gillette Superspeed.  For soap, it was a tin of Pre de Provence shaving soap because there was no worry about a leaking cream and I could build lather right in the tin, which was great for me because I don't enjoy face lathering.  I had an inexpensive boar brush in a travel container but I think if I was still doing this I would take something like a Stirling 22mm synthetic; small, builds great lather, and quick drying.
