CCity, do you have any recommendations for a brand of silicone grease that works well?

wingdo I know it's a cliché, but the smoothness on the SB is such that I wonder if there's a blade in the razor.

Thanks for the compliments on the razor. To be honest, I bought the first one for its looks, but after I shaved with it, it went right into the rotation.

I bought Trident Silicone Grease in a two-ounce tub. $8, from Amazon, for many lifetimes of supply. Here's the product description:

Rubber products such as O-rings. Regulator and valve system components. Breathing apparatus, B.C.D.s, hoses, cylinder O-rings, pressure systems, cameras. Trident Brand Silicone Grease is formulated to permeate rubber surfaces to provide deep, long lasting conditioning. Treated products resist drying and cracking and provide a better seal. Also great to waterproof flashlights, medical equipment, electrical connectors, pipe fittings and anywhere resistance to moisture and degradation is desired. Ideal for lubricating moving metal parts. Permeates the surface of materials for thorough lubrication. Preserves rubber, plastic and metal. Reduces damage caused by sticking or exposure to the elements. Superior oxidation resistance and water repellency. Remains pliable even after extended use. 100% pure. Non-flammable, non-toxic formula.

I also use it on my aluminum and Zamak razor threads. It's one of those products you hope you never notice...

Thanks, Scott, just ordered some of the silicone grease. I notice you mentioned using them on aluminum and Zamak razor threads. Is there any reason to use it on stainless steel razors?

And gents, I think I agree and prefer the 'aged' patina look of the used razor, so I'm going to use them both au naturel

I don't know of any reason why you shouldn't use the silicone grease on stainless steel but, then again, I was a philosophy major. The stuff seems to be useful to protect the threads of the top cap. I don't trust the longevity of Zamak or aluminum as much as I trust stainless, so I arbitrarily drew a line.

I also agree that natural patina is the way to go. I clearly don't use my Charcoal enough, because I don't yet see that sort of contrast. Perhaps I should just carry it around in my hand all day...

Michael P If I recall correctly, you have a Wolfman as well. How does the Level 2 compare in aggressiveness and efficiency to your Wolfman? If I am mistaken can you make the same comparison to some other modern popular razors?

Clearcoat can be the final spray of paint on vehicles OR similar product for models. You can get it in GLOSSCOAT or DULLCOAT. The first generation stainless firearms had issues with spalding on contact surfaces ie slide to frame on semi automatics but that involved high speed recoil. More contemporary stainless may or many not have issues depending on the degree of surface to surface polishing.

I know you're asking about the Level 2, but my two cents: I have a Charcoal Level 3 and a Wolfman with the increased .74mm blade gap. On my face, the Charcoal is a more efficient shave, but not noticeably more aggressive. I'm an efficiency guy. The most efficient DEs I use, for reference, are the Charcoal, R41 2011, Ikon Tech, PAA DOC Evo in stainless, Le Coq cage comb and ATT H2. The FaTip piccolo is close. Back to regularly scheduled programming...

Thanks Scott that helps a lot. For reference I have a Wolfman OC with the .74 blade gap and a Timeless .95 OC.
