The Level 3 Open Comb base plate got here yesterday, and I couldn't wait to shave with it this morning. I put the heavier 'Magnum" handle on it to encourage a light touch.

Wow.

I know it's only been one shave, but my first impressions are right in line with Scott's CCity.

It's the smoothest Open Comb razor I've ever used, especially given the level of efficiency. Easily as efficient as the Mühle R41, but much, much smoother. As smooth as the Wolfman .74 Open Comb, but more efficient.

Not a trace of irritation with 4 passes and touchup. I could have stopped with a 2-pass DFS, a 3-pass, BBS, but heck, it's a new razor, so I went for everything, and this razor handled buffing, J hooks, everything I could throw at it.

I have a feeling this is going to be a razor I will use often.

I had my first shave with my Charcoal Goods lvl 2 SB today and it was Smoooooooth. Initial impressions I am very impressed with the fit/finish, and more importantly I was able to get a BBS shave with three passes and some touch up. I was worried that the lvl 2 wasn't going to be efficient enough for me, but popped in a Feather and it was smooth sailing. I had no irritation, and I feel that this is a Razor I could shave with every day. The only other Razors I have that I feel this way about are my BBS-1 and my ATT S2. I would like to grab the Hammered Magnum handle in the future as I prefer larger handles, and I will definitely be on the lookout for an OC as well as the lvl 3. Everything I have read is that the OC are some of the smoothest out there. A Razor with all the looks and the performance to back it up, I love it!

Glad to hear you're happy with the Charcoal, Hunter! My Level 3 open comb remains my favorite razor, even though I've acquired several others striving for playing time since I last posted, with the Timeless .95 open comb performing the best. The Charcoal remains top of the heap, however. Not only is it my best performing razor, with the blade-forward (i.e., aggressive) feel I enjoy, but it also embodies sheer beauty. I've enjoyed wearing away the wax coating, and am now striving for eating away at the antique surface of the handle, to give it contrast between antique and shiny. Brian's work is stellar.

Any info on the lvl 1 gap?
Also, how smooth is it comparing to Rockwell for example?
