I wonder if the little tote bag it gets shipped in is causing those marks you see, at least on the top cap.

Who knows, but I doubt it's abrasive enough to cause that. The razor was nothing like that when you received it right?

no. I think when I packaged it up, I literally rinsed it off and wiped it down with a cloth hand towel.

 that's the first thing that came to mind the very first time I saw it, and haven't been able to get that image out of my head ever since. And I agree, it should be the official name.  

If they redo a handle I hope they sell them separately. I'd likely pick one up if they were around $60. I don't like the current handle.

I got this razor thanks to a good friend recommendation.However , for him this razor shaves like a LASSC BBS1 (Wolfman) and that razor is not even on my top 10 of favorite razors.Well , I'm glad I got this one since , and this is funny , for me , shaves like a Barbaros TR1 , a razor I truly regret I did sold back in 2016.



As you guys already know , Sean and his wife are behind this company , located on Minneapolis and this razor is 100 per cent hand made with 316 L stainless steel.

The razor itself is very elegant and after several weeks of use the handle have grown on me.Well , today it does but tomorrow might change my opinion (again) regarding it's looks.



This razor is extremely well balance , more than others that I have tried like ATT Atlas , Timeless , Blackland etc. And what do I called "balanced" ? Well , for me is the kind of razor that not all the weight is located on the head while shaving.I don't know if I'm expressing myself right but I dislike razors where all the weight basically rest on the head , making it a little bit strange for me to hold it while shaving.
Is not the case with it and has more of a balance weight throughout the razor.(Hope this makes sense).



And going back to the handle : yes , it has a unique design , something I appreciate , since not every single razor out there has to look the same or more "traditional" and its polished finish is excellent , making it shiny not overly shiny.

Holding the razor could be tricky at the begining and I found my fingers more on the smooth side on the handle that on the pattern one.If your hands are wet , like mine are when shaving , go figure , that smooth area is very slippery, so no good.

But I have "learned" how to adjust to this handle and now I hold it on a way that I can feel "safe" , even with my wet hands.



But where this razor excels for me , is on the shaving/removing of hair department.I have tried this razor with several blades : Gillette Platinum and Silver , Astra Blue and Green and Iridium Super , which are basically my to go blades and gosh , outstanding shaves with it each time.

Yes , there is a blade feel but I like it.As I said , this razor shaves for me like the Barbaros TR1 model , which I enjoyed back at the time (took me some time to warm up to it and like it but I really enjoyed it).

Am I happy with this razor ? Yes , I am.I have been spoiled with great razors lately and this is one of them.

Would I like to see this razor with a new handle design ? Yes to that question too.

Is this razor worth the 250 bucks ? It is for me but I understand there are a great competition out there and some of those razors has lower prices.

Very glad this razor joined my den and looking forward to see what the future holds for this company.

Just received the "West Coast"  CX today from HoosierShave. Finish on the razor looks good to me. Maybe it is because my eyes are getting old or the finish really is good. Weight is good and appears to be well made, comparable to the $200-$300 razors. First shave tonight and I will report on that. A pack of Astra blades came in the box and since they are one of my favorite med-high performing blades, I loaded one for tonight.I will probably take three nights to get a feel for the razor and the next couple of nights comparing it to some of my other razors. For all night, I will be using the same soap and same blade just to eliminate any variances.

No styptic pencil or alum block - No Blood, No Foul.

First shave in the books. First thing I noticed when assembling the razor was the blade tabs were exposed. I know there is a lot of back and forth on this matter, however my feeling is that exposed blade tabs had it's place when tolerances were not as close and you needed a way to finely adjust your blade. With CNC machining these days, I feel it is a thing of the past and only serves as something that can scratch your fingers. Getting past that, I lathered up and started my WTG pass using the normal angle. It was very aggressive and so I immediately changed to ride the cap more. I then realized that the CX had a very narrow sweet spot, but was extremely efficient once found. I finished my WTG pass without incident. the shave reminded me of the Mamba razors with the "phantom" shaves - you don't feel the blade, but you don't have any whiskers after the pass.

ATG went very well. There was a spot under my chin where my whiskers grow in three different directions, and the CX made quick work of that in one pass. I did notice, however, that holding the razor for the ATG pass was the first time I had to fol around with the grip because of the odd shaped handle. Not a major problem, just something noticeable. I got away with a two pass plus minimal touch up BBS. I think I could have gotten away with a one pass DFS + if I was more familiar with the CX.

I am impressed after one shave. If it gets better tomorrow, maybe the comparisons with other razors can happen before the weekend.

The blade tabs issue is definitely up for debate ?. Some people have strong opinions about it while others don’t care either way. I happen to have the opposite opinion as you. I sold my Rex because it covered the blade tabs. That was the only thing I didn’t like about it. The Charcoal Goods razors leave a very small amount exposed and are probably a good compromise between the 2 options. They leave just enough of the tabs exposed to make loading the blade easier, but not enough to notice them.

Thanks Andrew...the bag we ship the razor with in the tube is a "burlap" bag. The reason we chose this material is because it is breathable, biodegradable and absorbs moisture/oil. The material is course but we did not believe it would scratch the surface...if it does this would be very helpful information.

One suggestion, if "ShaveSymptomatic" is OK, would be for us to ship a new razor to him for comparison? We would like to include a prepaid package for him to ship the "old" unit back to us for inspection and review. The new unit would continue in the pass around. Please note our intent would NOT be to cherry pick a new one that is "perfect" but send a unit that is indicative of what we offer...hence we send it to ShaveSymptomatic vs sending it to the next person on the pass around.

In addition to hand sanding, machine sanding, 3 stage buffing, hand polishing we also elected to electropolish the cap, this significantly increases corrosion protection and smooths the surface of "micro-peaks and valleys" so it can be easily cleaned. The trade off is, it can show "scratches" especially when magnified(and photographed)
