I have been purchasing products from several countries in Europe for many years. Accordingly, I have been following the conversation rate of a US Dollar to the EU Euro for about five years. Granted if someone in the US purchases from Europe they do not pay VAT (Value Added Tax). Over the last 4 years I have purchased 14 custom brushes from one company England and two companies in Germany. I have been following a benchmark of 168€ to the dollar. When I purchased my brushes, 168€ cost me any where from $179 to $183. In the last 2 years the dollar has weakened and 168€ now has converted to as high as $202. It has finally come down (the dollar is stronger) and today 168€ will cost almost $192.

So what does that mean 4,34€ in the past 2 years will cost $5. If you purchase one puck of soap from the company you told me about, shipping will cost 5,60€ or $6.50 for a total of $11.50. Not a bargain. And the shipping goes up from there. It is not the advertised price of the soap but what it will cost you to get it into your house. Another thing to keep in mind the price the bank will charge you on you credit card for the conversation which is generally 15%.

I can’t argue with your math. But I’ve always bought my Haslinger as part of a larger order from Gifts and Care, so throwing in a few pucks of soap has at most increased my shipping cost by only a marginal amount.

Love Haslinger tallow but not the new veggie soap, to fluffy. Anyway for budget soaps I like Cella. Light almond scent and really good performance. Always have a tub of it. I would buy the kilo block but I've got too many soaps to use as it is.

Could you send me am private message and let me know where you purchase Haslinger for $4.50 to $5.00 in the US.  I have checked four of the largest mail order houses who stock the soap and the cheapest I found was $7.99.  Even Amazon charges $9.00.  If I can purchase it for that price I will stock up providing it is tallow base.

The tallow based has been phased out & is no more. Gifts & Care is in Spain and their shipping rates to the USA were exorbitant the last time I looked.

There has been a few mentions of Haslinger soap lately.  The main topic is the formula change from tallow to vegan.  I have been using this product for several years and it is one my top soaps.  Problems?  Expensive for 2oz but what a great lather and shave.  A couple of months ago when the change was announced I found a place that still had some tallow inventory and purchased several.  Then recently I began looking again and could only find one seller who had some tallow inventory left and again purchase a few.  I may try one vegan just to see if it comparers.

Tabac is one of my favorite soaps and scents. It can be found for less than $10 a puck. The scent is hit or miss for many but I love it and so does my wife. Its one of the best soaps made as far as I'm concerned.

I hear that often by people who have/use it, but I haven't bought it based on the scent alone. It ranges from fantastic to horrid and everything in between depending on who you ask. I'll smell it one of these days I guess.

Check the perfume/cologne stores in your local mall. I found the Tabac cologne in one of our malls and sampled it before ordering the soap.

I used Tabac today. And yes Tabac (not necessary the shave soap) is sold in a lot of stores. I occasionally go to this German deli and when I say German deli, everything is imported from Germany. Newspapers, food, wine, beer, etc, etc. They sell Tabac products such colognes after shave talc, etc. So you can find their products in many places. Many people like the soap not only for its performance but its fragrance as well. I also own Sterling in Spice and it smells just like Tabac.

Haslinger is a good choice, another is Arko. Yes I can deal with the scent.

Did try the new Haslinger reformulated, it's without a doubt a couple steps below the tallow formula for sure.

Cella by the kilo got me through grad school.
