Gentlemen,

Thank you kindly for your thoughts and feedback on the Blackbird.

Among the thoroughbreds in my stable, is the Rockwell 6S.

Only used the 6-plate once right outta the box, on day-old stubble...with a new Feather blade...as a wet shave infant. Excited to try my first DE, having just tossed an old 5-bladed garden rake cartridge, which was prolly a year old (no joke)...

...I misunderstood Rockwell’s system, and thought I was using the mildest setup.

Scraped hide right off the bone...

Helluva intro to the “new way”.

That was soon-to-be three years ago, and I’ve come a loooong way with this glorious “hobby” of ours. In several cases of new gear I’ve since gathered, I started out thinking this new razor is really aggressive. The 17-4 was that way, as was the Timeless Bronze.

My prep, and technique, have improved to a significant degree, and those two instruments are working very well presently.

I’ll make a final decision on the BB after a few 6-plate shaves with the Rockwell.

On new razors, or blade tryouts, I’m also finding a good dose of super-slick “Cremo” shave cream REALLY helps avoid costly mistakes, while I build a relationship with the new tool.

Speaking of new tool...<drumroll here>...just received my new Karve.

Pretty incredible Chris!

B,C,D-plates.

Feedback soon...

I couldn’t resist the Sale going on at Blackland. I’ve been wanting a Polished SB Blackbird for a long time, and this was the excuse I needed to make it happen. Can’t wait to add it to my rotation along with my Black Oxide SB/OC. Thank You Shane Blackland Razors!

P.S.- I’m still really looking forward to the Blackland Slant!

I think it was 10% off, IIRC.

Blagoja Rajevski That’s correct, it’s 10% off Machined and Polished Blackbirds and Sabres.

Well I drooled over the original black oxide for some time as growing up the SR-71 fascinated me, and was ready to pull the trigger in the spring as I had some other premium razors on my list to get first that I had attained. So when the Dart was announced I decided to wait until the Dart was available. The Stars aligned and both were in-stock and I did it. Fast forward past my re-sipper holding the package due to a missing item (nothing was missing, obviously no shaving enthusiast work there) But I was away and had no cell or wifi and some panicked emails to Shane due to the poor pictures my shipper sent, Shane is a gentleman who went well beyond to sort it out and extremely fast emailing when I had wifi for half an hour. The only complaint is I shave only once a day, so it will take some time to try all my new Blackland purchases. But today was the day, I loaded up the persona blade that was sent with the razor (normally I'd use an Astra in an unknown razor) Picking up this razor it feels like a tool with great grip, not like some of my other premium razors that feel like works of art (the Blackbird is beautiful in it's own way), having read some of the tips on the Blackbird I focused on angle and noticed pretty good audible feedback and really was thinking that I was not going to be happy with the shave due to little blade feel. Spoiler I was wrong, I don't know the magic in this razor but one of the few razors that can give me a BBS shave and knocked down my trouble spot but it did it so smoothly I had virtually no blade feel and zero irritation. I know shaving is a YMMV thing but this razor just clicked with me right out of the box. This is the mildest feeling razor I have that gives me that close of a shave. I'm kicking myself I didn't get this razor ahead of some of the other razors I've acquired, I might of not collected so many (who am I kidding, I'd of gotten the eventfully) So this concludes my long winded first impression. To sum up the Blackbird in one word all I have to say is WOW

I got an email from Blackland today, and wanted to share-

“After we return, Blackland will be busier than it has ever been. We have a series of huge releases coming up this fall and winter including (in no particular order) our Artist Club single edge razor, polished Darts, more polished Blackbirds, premium finishes, brushes, and Blackbirds in a new material. All of these items are in production now or have been scheduled and we’ll be rolling out those releases in rapid succession beginning in October.”

I’m really looking forward to the Blackbirds in a new material as well as the “premium finishes”. Fingers crossed that the new material is Bronze. Titanium would be nice as well. I’m also hoping that Shane still has plans for a Slant. The Blackbird is still my #1 Shaver so I’m looking forward to what Blackland Razors comes up with!

Slant is coming as well. Scheduling production soon along with another razor. The next 6 months will be extremely busy.
