I've tried Astra SP, Personna(the ones that came with the razor), and Gillette Silver Blues. They all seem to work well for me in this razor. I ordered a blade sampler pack to try out some other brands.

We have a fresh batch coming in a few weeks. Recently we switched polishers and that has taken a bit to get them up to speed. But now they’re ready to start. The quality of the polish is better than anything we’ve put out before. And we’ll be able to keep up with demand and have these in stock all the time.

In my experience, most blades that haven’t been that good in other razors will work just fine in the Blackbird. I guess you can say that it’s a transformative razor even in that sense. Smile

However, my favorites are the Personna (Med) Prep and Feather New Hi-Stainless. For me, the Med Prep especially makes the Blackbird a weapon of mass stubble destruction, while being friendly to the skin.

Thanks a lot for your answer. That's what I asked for.
I tried a Med Prep yesterday. What a wonderful shave ! By the way I've got some difficulty to find nice blades for the Blackbird (SB). I think that most rigid are the blades, nicest is the shaving with this razor.

Glad to hear this! Also, I should add that the first time I ever tried a Gillette Nacet Stainless was in my open comb Blackbird, and I got 11 great shaves out of that blade. Smile

The Blackbird is on my list of razors to get, my question is of those that have both OC and SB what is the difference in feel and quality of the shave? For a frame of reference I love my Wolfman .74, Gillette Old, and can get great shaves from an R41, but I do shave everyday so irritation is undesirable.

I have both and I like the OC better. I think it's a little smoother, but I don't think there is much difference between the 2. I just prefer OC razors. I have a standard gap Wolfman OC, but I use a shim in it. I think the Blackbird is more efficient, but not as smooth.

The OC and SB share the same shaving geometry so the difference is subtle and primarily comes down to face feel, beard growth, and user preference. Open comb is perhaps a touch more aggressive.

During the first 30 days of ownership you can always swap base plates if you don't like the one you chose. Alternatively, you can buy both and return the one you like least.

I would just get both baseplates and return which ever you least prefer. This is what I did and am glad I made the decision, even if I end up keeping both plates - which I probably will. Shane is SUPER easy to deal with and the return process is about as easy as possible.
