Blackland announces new Tradere Razors

I recall the bit in the video where the handle was discussed.
Never liked the handle myself as it never matched the excellent looks
of the head...and I hope that gets some attention.

There's a handle done by Cooncat Bob of BRW that would look so cool
on this head...it even has the bell tube at the end.
Bob died about 6 years ago

I don't know what anyone means by 'modern' when comparing current production to the Tradere ? Maybe because I'm 70 years old, but the Tradere seems to me to be every bit as 'modern' as anything I can order online today, that is in the same category as a 3 piece safety razor. That said, there is a review here of the Tradere on Sharpologist which states ;

"The first model was named “OC (which stood for open comb design) was initially received by some users as being slightly aggressive. This motivated Mason to make a few tweaks and debut a modified version called the second generation OC. This razor was a success and the most produced model by Tradere."

From my perspective the gen 1 OC is a very aggressive razor by any standards. I happen to like aggressive razors very much, and while the gen 2 SB is smooth and comfortable to shave with, I'd say it is extremely efficient , maybe even 'aggressive'. As for the handle, I really like it, and the handle is why I bought the razor in the first place. I liked the look of it in photos, and when I got it in hand I liked it even more.

I'm glad to see Shane introducing the 'new' Tradere. My two are desert island razors that I can't imagine I'd ever get rid of. I'm interested to see if the 'tweaks' which differed in the original Tradere are present in the upcoming Blackland version. One way or the other, I can highly recommend the Tradere.

Gen 2 SB...in both WR1 and WR2

Well IMO the 1st gen OC is similar to a Muhle R-41. So maybe a bit more aggressive than a Wolfman .86. The 2nd gen SB is maybe like a Wolfman .74. Hard for me to make the direct comparisons. I only know I have to shave with the OC with care. The SB is a more relaxed, yet very efficient shave. OTOH, I can shave with a Wolfman .86 OC as relaxed as with the SB. So it is hard for me to say.

Jimmy...didn't you just get a WR2 125? If so, run it side by side with OC1 and tell us what you think. I also know you said you didn't like to do reviews. Maybe make a small exception? It would be appreciated.

It doesn't have to take long. Just hit the high points. Smoothness, efficiency, blade feel. Hit those 3 and call it a day.

Lot of comments on how aggressive it is...some guys report irritation at first....(maybe a technique thing?). Seems to be the reason
why they only made 209 or so and then made over 900 Gen 2 OCs....which got a better reception.

The SB has much praise on smoothness, though it's reported as 'quite mild' ....one reviewer put it down to a big blade gap and small blade exposure...which
come to think of it reminds me of the wolfman wr2 head ...and how smooth it is on big gaps.

Just to clarify, they didn’t make 900 Gen 2 OCs. They made ~900 Gen 2 OCs and SBs combined. Nobody knows the exact split between OC and SB.

Also important to note that in the intervening years, appetite for aggressive razors has climbed dramatically. I strongly prefer the Gen 1.

I like aggressive razors too but smoothness is paramount.
Maybe someone who's used a Gen1 recently can talk about smoothness.

Got this off of EBay for a premium price a couple years ago and it was and is worth every penny! Gen1 OC SN#54. I love aggressive razors and this is not that aggressive to me. I think it compares well with the OC side of my WR2 1.25 DC. I use a PolSilver or Voskhod blade with it and it is extremely efficient. Like I have said before, I have never used the original handle with it because it’s not polished. I am currently using a titanium Jurgen Hempel brownish colored handle. It did come with the original handle and the original packaging (black box with cushioning inside but I can do without the original packaging if that cuts costs a bit Shane.

I remember back when 1st Gen came out and some people were complaining saying it was to Aggressive which I don’t find it to be at all but I’d say very efficient not aggressive as I only use that word if a razor has harsh face feel to it but that’s just my take. The whole it’s to aggressive thing when it first came out reminds me of what happened to the Paradigm Titanium 1.. Andy got the same feedback and only made 50 I believe and then discontinued it and what a damn shame as I found to also be very efficient but a smooth maneuverable razor that’ now has become a very hard to get razor.
It’s been a while since I did the side by side with my 1st Gen OC vs my SS WR1 .94 and it’s out on lend to a member so I’ll try using my Charcoal Goods Level 3 OC and see how that compares
