Hi all - I'm new to the forums - been a DE shaver for at least 10 years. I generally don't like Bay Rums (like Captain's Choice) but I love the Derby City Small Batch tonic. Seems less harsh? Anyway - I'd love to find a soap thats similar to the tonic if anyone knows anything similar.

Thanks!

I asked the same question a few months back on another forum. 2 recommendations came my way from a gentleman who might have tried both imo.

1. Soap Commander Fortitude
2. Wsp Ol' Kentucky

I picked up Fortitude. Now it's not a bay Rum soap but is pairing up fine with the derby city chop shop. Notes of hay, rum etc are delicious in the soap.

Appreciate the response - I'll take a look at both. It's probably the bourbon scent I like so much in the tonic - these make a lot of sense!

I have Soap Commander Fortitude and its not in any way a bay rum so if it pairs well with the Derby City Tonic then I'll take it that the tonic is a bay rum in name only. SC Fortitude uses a third party scent blend that you will also find in Mickey Lee Soap Works Jurate and Lisa's Natural Herbal Creations Amber & Tobacco and probably more soaps that I haven't smelled yet. Its not a bad scent, just overdone I think.

To my nose, Derby City smells nothing like a bay rum; rather, it's got a magnificent bourbon/vanilla scent. I find any vanilla-scented soap goes well with Derby City.

like you, I'm also a lover of bay rum and did not like the SC Fortitude scent. I think I used it 2x before selling it off.

But then scents are so subjective. Would suggest that OP lays his hands on some samples first before committing a full puck.

Yeah - I think it's definitely the bourbon & spice that I like in the tonic. I've got the Boomtown Bay Rum (which to my nose has a pretty mild scent) and don't mind that, but I know that's really not a strong bay rum scent either. Thanks for the suggestions all!

I think that would be a good idea.

I was wondering if Chop Shop guys can be persuaded to bring out a matching soap in collaboration with any of the artisans. Wouldn't it be great?
