Hey all.  For those who enjoy Ballenclaugh soaps, have you noticed any difference between the new batches now being sold on WCS and the old ones Chris sold on his FB page? I apologize if I’m late to the game and he announced recently that he adjusted the formula, but I noticed that the ingredients list on his new labels include coconut oil while I thought I understood that he previously didn’t use coconut oil.  Even the ingredients list included on each soap listing on WCS doesn’t include coconut oil.

The reason I ask is because I have a tub of Festive Parlor (one of my favorites from Chris) that seemed to perform better than a recent tub of Old Barber Menthe.  It seemed to hold water better.  It’s very possible that I could’ve just screwed up the lather on the newer tub.

Anyways, just thought I’d throw that out there and see if anyone has had similar experiences. Thanks!

Great question, and I hope someone who knows more responds. (I don’t have any of the new soaps, all of mine were bought directly from Chris.)

I have a few from different batches and until now I did not notice any difference. I will shave tomorrow with the new Portals and will report back as soon as I can

Hopefully they don't have coconut oil. I was interested in trying one eventually but I prefer soaps that don't have it.

The new Crypt scent went up today at West Coast Shaving, and there’s the same discrepancy — the ingredients list on the product page doesn’t include coconut oil, but if you look at the label itself, it does.

Hello. Sorry for the confusion. Yes all Ballenclaugh soaps have are made with a small amount of coconut oil. My soaps aren’t just stearic acid and a few other oils to produce a lather. I use a calculator to create a soap that is on paper balanced in its properties and very lather producing. Coconut oil is not bad for the skin. Can be drying if used in heavy amounts. My using is very small in my soaps, but it is there to round out all of the qualities I looked for in my formula 4.5

Both scents mentioned are made in the 4.5 formula. The festive parlor is an older aged soap from last year, this might effect the performance very slightly, for better or worse ymmv. The OBM uses a different amount and different set of fragrance or essential oils than that of FP, which might also make a difference( for better or worse, ymmv). The base for both soaps is the same. I will talk to WCS about including coconut oil in the ingredients. Thank you for buying my soaps and supporting Ballenclaugh!

Now there's a fragrance I didn't know was missing from my collection - mouldering corpses. Confused

An excellent shave with the Portals. This soap is as good as the other soaps from Chris that I tried before. I did not  feel any noticeable difference with either the Festive Parlor or Honey and Tobacco.
