I have no way of measuring the gap.  It will be 0.73 mm + the thickness of 2 shims made from Feather blades.  It should increase the blade gap, and possibly change the angle of attack, but not alter the blade exposure or blade reveal.  I'll report back on Sunday morning.

Blades are around .1 mm thick, so the shims should add roughly .2 mm to the gap, bringing it to roughly .93, without increasing the exposure.

And that’s how you know thought was put into this razor, knowing the thickness of the average DE blade and understanding how that may affect the geometry

First few shaves with the Drakkant prototype have been quite enjoyable. I have to say this razor has a lot going for it. It’s quite the looker, it has a design aesthetic that reminds me of the Blackbird, tough and functional but not rough. I love the handle (even more if it were a quarter inch shorter) it’s got a grippy substantial feel, I have no concerns about dropping this razor. The top cap design is eye catching and different then every other razor out there. The baseplate is probably my first area that I may have a critique about, not that it’s a big one and that is I get a slight drag/suction sensation, it’s easily overcome but I’m not sure if it’s the way the grooves in the comb are cut or the finishing. I certainly wouldn’t want the finish any other way, I believe it suits this razor’s appearance perfectly. Now the shaves, this is a subjective thing I know YMMV as many like to say but I’m an everyday early morning shaver and I’m looking for a drama free DFS, I’ll save my R41 for a weekend shave. All my shaves to this point have been with a Gillette Nacet loaded as I find it tends to work in any razor, I have to say with some buffing I get a great shave, this razor feels safe enough that I believe you’d have to work to try and nick yourself or get irritation. For a prototype and first razor out of the gate I think Aylsworth has hit that sweet spot for 90% of shavers with this geometry. My next few shaves before moving it on will be with a Feather blade, I find that there are a few razors that have similar characteristics and benefit from it. Razors that I’d put in the ballpark of the Drakkant are the Blackland Era level 4 plate, the Karve Overlander and the Paradigm Diamondback. I’d like to thank Aylsworth for making the razor available for this pass around and I’m glad I jumped on the preorder for this. [Image: 5462b2bbd9a2ddcaebc247ba504361ec.jpg]

My third and last shave with the Drakkant razor.  I noticed increased efficiency with the shimmed Feather blade, perhaps a slightly wider angle (perhaps), but no greater blade feel.  I like this razor, and will probably buy it if/when it goes into production.  The prototype has some rough edges that need smoothing out, and I don't like the decorative channel on the topcap, but it shaves very well and that's what's important.  I will mail it out tomorrow to the next participant.  Best of luck Kaleb, with this project.

Thank you for the thorough reviews and feedback!  It will most certainly go into production (in fact it already is!) and the razors are set to release in May of this year.  I am also prototyping a heavy and open comb heavy plate that I'm hoping to release by the end of the summer or early fall.

Thanks again for participating and please do fill out the quick feedback survey when you have a moment Smile  https://forms.gle/pWo81jQ9WxzFMLUp8

OK, I don't get out much but Brandon Shaves video hydrating with a mister bottle while applying lather to the face?  Who knew?  I'll put that one right up there with bringing a reclining lawn chair into the bathroom to recline on with a hot towel on your face before shaving.  While I'm not dragging a lawn chair into the bathroom, I might try the mister trick.  Has anyone else tried it?  I can see it helping if you under hydrated the lather and didn't realize it until you'd applied but to use all the time?  Not sure if it would make a difference to a properly prepared soap.  Maybe the water could be scented?  Additional layer of complexity or muddying the existing scent?

I have tried the mister bottle thing but it is not worth the ridicule I got from my better half Marko ...
