I acquired a ATT R2 Atlas earlier this year and found it to be very aggressive, a little too aggressive for my taste. I considered exchanging the base plate for the M2 but decided what the hay, just buy another baseplate. The M2 arrived yesterday and for me, its an improvement in comfort and still provides a BBS shave. Maybe one day I'll graduate to the R2 or maybe I'll post it in the BST.

Love it when a plan comes together! Enjoy that new plate Marko . The cool thing about the ATT model is the tremendous flexibility of the plates to dial in your shave- love it.

Enjoy!

I figured I'd update this post - so, I had not used my ATT M2 open comb razor since last winter because I had found that even with the switch to the M2 (mild) baseplate from the R2 (regular) the razor was still too aggressive for me. I've been shaving with safety razors for about 4 years now and I thought last winter that my technique was dialled in. In any case, I picked up the razor yesterday and loaded it with a Rapira Platinum Lux blade, which I find to be a very comfortable blade generally, and set off to give the ATT another chance. Well, I think that either through an improvement in technique, an ideal blade, alignment of the stars or a combination of all of those things, I found the razor to be a little less harrowing to use. Its still aggressive but I'm getting a BBS shave without any nicks or irritation whatsoever. Make no mistake, I know its a very close shave when I'm done but its still comfortable. I'm glad I held on to this razor and gave it another chance, we all deserve a second chance don't we?

Persistence is often the key to good shaves. Learning how to use new equipment is like learning how to use a new tool. If I know that the new tool has worked for many other people, then I think it’s up to me to spend some time finding out how to make it work for me, as well. (Usually it will, in the end. If it doesn’t, there’s always the Buy/Sell/Trade.) Smile

Glad to hear that you were able to give the razor a new chance and notice an improvement!

Whenever I go to shave, I assume there’s someone else on the planet shaving, so I say “I’m gonna go shave, too.”
