Gillette may be about profit and they should be. Its a business.
I do constantly see the South Boston company giving back to the community locally and throughout New England.
They are very generous with time and money in this regard.

Reverse elitism.

I have three passports so I might look at it through a different lens.

It's easy to propelytize against Gillette, especially in the wet shaving community, as it feels good, and is a form of that reverse elitism. Some of that overseas production is in my native Ireland and has helped the economy in County Cork.

Some of that production also takes place in their plant opened in 2000 on the outskirts of St. Petersburg...and thank God. Some of the great blades come out of that plant. Iridium Super, Astra, 7 O'Clock SharpEdge, Permasharp. I used a great blade from that plant this morning...Nacet. Great blades, made by Gillette overseas.

I'll have to side with BPman on this one. As an American, living in America, the economies of County Cork Ireland or St. Petersburg Russia aren't really a concern for me. The exporting of our manufacturing jobs overseas is one of the biggest problems this country has faced in the last couple of decades. The trickle down effect it has had on middle to low income people has been great. Those former factory workers have had to take much lower paying jobs in the service industry or elsewhere and have a hard time making ends meet. And all for what? So mega corporations can make a few extra million a year? It seems that back in the day these companies valued their employees more over the almighty dollar. Not so much anymore.

But I digress. I am with you on the blades though. Some of my favorite ones come out of that Russian factory.

Roughly fifty percent of the Continental Army, State militias and most of our privateers carrying letters of Marque were Irish. One of my ancestors; Patrick Kavanagh; late of the Austro Hungarian officer corps and an artillery specialist and the American army deserted when repeated protests over the looting of catholic churches and prejudice went ignored and joined the San Patricios. He escaped Mexico City hiding in the sewers and slipped out at night and returned to California. The Union Army refilled it's ranks with an endless supply of irish volunteers. Last man standing at the battle of the greasy grass was Major Keogh who continued firing as he ran along the ridgeline picking up firearms from fallen soldiers until shot. His was the only body not mutilated out of respect. I could mention the famed Fighting Irish of WW1. My own small service was tainted with extra duty when I told an officer his comment was racist during inspection upon finding a missed loose thread from a hastily re sewn button and referring it as my 'Irish Penant' an old slur about the shabby clothing of potato famine refugees.
Way I see things, we are posting on Chicom made computers about British, German and French brushes, British, German,Spanish, Canadian razors, British, French, Dutch, Italian, Austrian and Norwegian soaps and British, German, Russian, Indian and Occupied Palestine blades and British, French, German, Austrian, Spanish and Italian scents.
If you have issue with an Irish factory taking food out of some American's mouth ( and a goodly percentage bear Irish names) buy a 80 " long red tie from a certain collection to support the economy- the Chicom economy.
