if I get a new soap or brush, sometimes I'll make some test lathers to see how it goes.

Normally it starts by just smelling soaps in my collection and then it turns into a full blown lather fest

sometimes if I get bored I'll lather a soap. Mostly it is reserved for a new brush, which is one of the reasons I like boar brushes, I get to make extra lathers to break them in.

I will smell a bunch of soaps while I'm grabbing one to shave with. Sometimes with a new brush I'll do some palm lathers prior to actually shaving with it for the first time

I also do some practice lathers with new soaps(usually palm lathers) to see how they lather and to see how much water they will take. It's also a good way to de-funk and break in new brushes.
