That's a knee slapper right there!!
Nero,  I would highly recommend you try the GD Aion.  The scent is very lite, woodsy, Oud.  The soap is firm and I have had no problems with my two tubs of it.  Ruds gave it a perfect score of 100.
I do not like oud, unfortunately. Thanks though.

I'm sure it's a great soap but I was wondering why does everyone keep mentioning this Ruds guy? Is he some kind of shave soap critic?

groomingdept
Greetings,

I have been making soaps since 2017. Grooming Dept soaps have been well received. The soaps have been purchased by customers all over the world. I have constantly sold out of every batch I have made! I frequently receive emails from customers informing me of how much joy the soaps bring them.

Each batch I have made of each soap has been around 120 jars. I have become aware that some jars of some releases have become unstable and gone bad. While I don’t believe the issue are prevalent, I stand behind the products which I make.

If you are not satisfied with any Grooming Dept soap you have. Please contact me so I can issue you an RMA number to return the soaps. If you are the original owner of the soap I will gladly offer you a refund option or store credit. If you bought the soaps second hand, I’ll be happy to issue you store credit.

Thank you for your business.

Best,

Mohammad Abed.

Just got this from Mo, talk about standing behind your products !

I agree with you on this. Mo needs to really get his business tight. Customer loyalty is not a given at any point and between soaps that have been growing things, liquidy soaps and other messed up stuff, he really has to take care. Soap is not a regulated industry and it is unfortunate that the customers have to police the artisans.

I'm all up for experimentation. However the sensible way of doing it is to have a standard vegan and tallow base line that has been rigorously tested and with which you can do scent experiments. That way there is standardization.

He can have an experimental line at an appropriate price point i.e high risk and (maybe) high reward for both the customers and the artisan, which can be used for gaining feedback.

I'm not a big fan of scented shave soaps except for a handful of exceptions. All of the grooming Dept. Soaps I have are unscented except for "Laundry" and the scent is absolutely beautiful!

Grooming Department has some big improvements in the works. I have been one of the testers for a new base called Kairos. It is a tallow based soap (Aion in the Nai base was vegan). I really liked Aion, but I had one reservation: it took at least an hour before I could start to feel the conditioning ingredients start to work. Once they started working, my face felt great for the next 16 hours or so.

With the new Kairos base the post-shave conditioning starts soon after the shave and continues for the next 24 hours. As someone with sensitive skin, I really appreciate that.

Kairos has got to be one of the slickest soaps I have ever used with superb cushion/blade protection as well. I tried something with Kairos I have never been willing to risk before. My normal shaving routine is to do a three-pass shave, lathering well before each pass: WTG, XTG, ATG. Then I do a fourth clean-up pass using lather, but also buffing difficult areas until I am very close to BBS.

Using Kairos, I shaved 1st pass WTG as usual. I relathered and then went directly to my ATG pass, skipping the XTG pass entirely. Then without relathering, I did a full-face clean-up pass, including buffing strokes, simply using the residual slickness of the lather from the 2nd pass. Due to the sensitivity of my skin, there are few, if any, of the 175 soaps in my den other than Kairos that I would consider attempting this. However, when I applied witch hazel after the shave, there was zero irritation.

Thus, as one who loves superb soaps, I have to say that Kairos is one of the very best soaps in my well-stocked den. Every time I say that a soap is so good that I could not imagine it being improved, the top artisans come along and prove me wrong. I thought Aion was superb, but Kairos is even better.

Right now, all I have is a sample of Kairos, but I am looking forward to purchasing a full tub of Kairos when it is released. The new scent will be called "etereo" which is derived from the Ancient Greek language meaning "as clean and pure as heaven". Thus, for those who do not like strong scents, this one should be "heavenly".
