That's a big plus in my books as well.

DFS is a great forum. The more relaxed rules seem to keep the disagreements that I have seen on other forums down as well.

For the GroomingDept MDC homage, I like the addition of aloe vera juice and perhaps other tweaks. If it’s exactly the same, I don’t see the point in doing it.

On the other hand, if it evolves similarly to how the Lusso base did from traditional Italian soaps, I could see this being a winner.

I tend to be in that minority too. Never understood what the big deal was about MdC.

I just shaved with V1. I have some MdC from a brain bowl that's about 2 years old. I also have the citrus and rose which are about 4 months old. I have decided to call the base "Replica" Smile

This is not something I'm whipping out to release anytime soon. But I'll soon start a thread, after V3-V4 to get feedback. I would love to get few testers, I'll be looking for participants who own MdC.

I don't want to deviate much from the simplicity of the base. I want to keep it the way it is and work within these constraints.

I may be in a minority...but.I found MdC to be a sub-par performer - for my skin anyway - in terms of protection and comfort. I’m sure you’ll make a superior product. How they justify that high price has always been a mystery to me.

You're not the only one. I owned both the original lavender MdC and the Fougere. I sold them both because they were very drying on my skin and protection was a little lacking. I kept the fougere for over a year just because I loved the scent. LASSC tried to copy MdC (exact ingredients) but fell short IMHO.
I'm sure Mo's formula will be an improvement over the original.
I'm happy to test, but I no longer own MdC.

Typically love testing soaps but if truly doing MdC replica, not of interest based on prior usage experience. That stated, way to go Mo, offering a base loved by many and harder to get since Pasadena closed shave ops is a real service.

MdC is what it is. A soap that has been around for a while. Easy to lather in any type of water, provides sufficient glide, the packaging is proper, somewhat unobtaium. It’s French, which implies good quality, the brand has been around for a while, the formula doesn't really change. Customers can always expect the same thing. There is nothing wrong this soap.

Some people don’t care about post-shave qualities, some people find it good enough and just slather a boatload of stuff afterwareds; I’ll share more of my thoughts about this issue when I talk about my preshave.

I dislike terms like top-tier or the best soap out there. People have different needs, budgets and priorities. Some people don’t want to spend money on shaving products and just like to buy Palmolive sticks and Willam’s pucks or something else! Whatever works, but judgment is not necessary Smile

I'd volunteer to test Replica and provide some feedback. I'll always have MdC on hand, so no problem doing a side by side comparison.
