These sentiments are a near universal experience in wet shaving. That said, anyone advocating a SIMPLICITY MOVEMENT philosophy of paucity or suggesting a group recitation of THE SERENITY PRAYER followed by a group sing of Kumbaya should be stoned with old pucks of Williams.

Think of it like spending money on any other hobby. Most of the money you spend is enjoyed but never recouped. Here are other hobbies that equally drain my wallet and retain little monetary value when enjoyed.

Going out to eat.
Vacationing
Sporting event
Autocross Racing
Go kart racing
Going to the Movies
video game purchase
Mountain biking purchase and travel
Reef aquariums
Paint ball
Camping
Concerts
For some reason in shaving people expect the hobby to save them money, or people get antsy about their collecting. Why. If you enjoy acquiring then accept that as part of the hobby. Keep it all within your means and make a ton of friends. If you really just want a good shave on a budget buy a Semogue boar brush, some VDH or Arko soaop, A pack of Astra Platinums and a Slim adjustible and some walmart whitch hazel Then walk away from the forums. But of course we can't do that because we want more than a cheap shave, we want to be a part of the discussion and be a part of a big circle of friends. New purchases are your membership dues, your green fees, your ticket of admission. Pay the fee and enjoy the hobby with no regrets.

You all realize that more than half the treasures we all covet will be going for $2 a pop at the garage sale the day we hit room temp.....

They do me no good once I'm dead, might as well give them away. We all need to designate benefactors upon death. Think how nice it would be to get a death bed give from a fellow hoarder.

I have a 1963 Slim that was given to me by a lady I have never met in person, but have known through various hobby forums for the last 10 years. Her father passed, she found this razor in his bathroom, and I was the only person she knew that had any interest. Rather than throw it away, she mailed it to me. When I told her it was a nice Slim and she could probably get $40 for it, she refused, and said, "I'm just happy someone will appreciate it."

I just received a bag o' razors containing 13 razors in very decent shape, and a strop that is still very serviceable with some attention. One of those razors could be worth up to $400. 2 others are easily worth $100-150.

I informed the guy that gave them to me that he was potentially giving away money. I even offered to clean up the high end one(a Dubl Duck Wonderedge in near-mint condition with box) and give it back to him.

His response? "You obviously know what they are. You obviously have a passion and appreciation for them the way my grandfather did. I want you to have them. To you they have value. To me they take up space."

While I agree with the sentiment that it is sad to think our prized gear will be worthless to those we leave behind, I am glad to be the benefactor!

Speaking only for myself, I am pretty sure that my daughter will make an effort to esnure my gear is appreciated after I am gone. Either by her and her family, or by finding someone that will love my gear to give it to...

Wetshaving is the first hobby that I have spent any money on other than surfing, kitesurfing, paddleboarding, or fly fishing. AD's have slowed now that I have a nice stable of razors, brushes and soaps. Every now and then I have an impulse to sell most of it and go minimal, but it always passes.

I sadly have no one so this is a way of buying happiness I suppose. I'll fully admit so it's why I buy new stuff every month or two. I enjoy it. Keeps me going. But yes with having no one means it'll all be thrown away upon my death. My friends will likely be more interested in the guns and electronics then shaving stuff. They use cartridges. Maybe they find there way to someone who enjoys shaving or maybe cause someone to get into it. I'm 29 so it'll be while. I'll enjoy shaving why I can. Better then just saving money away to never spend it.

Dude, you're 29. You have a long road ahead. I had my daughter at 31. I still have never been married, (and not really trying). Life does not end at 30, despite popular magazines and fashion trends trying to convince of otherwise...
