The Feather shavette is used weekly to trim above the moustache, and works very well. I have performed a few one-pass face shaves with it and I can do it without drawing blood. Progress, but not very efficient yet.  When I am ready to commit to single edge razors, I am ready. I have a Dovo and a Gold Dollar that will join the Feather. I am involved in a few pass-arounds here, and I am not ready to commit the first 100 shave to the SR. No hurry; it is a marathon, not a sprint. But I will get there in a few weeks, and am excited for the new challenge.

The Tatara razors are wonderful. With head & face shaving, I would really enjoy the convenience of an adjustable Muramasa. I switch out plates on my Yates 921 and Karve razors regularly, so doing the same with the Tatara Nodachi and Masamune  top and bottom plates is really not a hardship. The Tatara may have exceeded the Karve for my preferences, but not the Yates so far.

I am enjoying following your experience with the Vector. I would love to try one, but the Tatara became available before I could spend the $ on a Vector.

Let me ask the crowd...

If I only made a purchase with a gift card (I had to cover some tax)... Did I fail this month? Lol. So close to the end of April and I'm feeling good.

Either way, it's better than I've done in previous months. Going in the right direction.

I think you're good. When this was set in motion, we didn't have stringent rules, if I recall. I like that, and the fact that we take it monthly or whatever.

For me the goal is to reduce impulse purchasing, and secondly, to enjoy what I have more than enjoy shopping for more. For me, purchasing with a gift card is treating yourself as the gifter intended. Or if it is a "credit" gift card, spending money that is already "spent", i,e., you can't deposit it back or credit your credit account.

So my vote is to keep you on the island!

Lol. Thanks Eric. Makes sense to me. In the end it's just semantics ... I'm doing (a slight bit) better at responsible spending, which is the whole point in the end.

$5 soaps splashes and balms at Barrister & Mann make for a great way to end April. Now I will not need ANYTHING in May. Really. A son will be entering college soon, so, yes, really.

What, you want to help with tuition instead of giving him box loads of soaps, blades, brushes, and razors?! Just kidding! Say the word and you'll probably be inundated with all of our backups, lol!

We are very fortunate to have a tuition benefit, and I have agreed to pay for fees and books. As for shaving supplies, his two older brothers are my shaving buddies, and they will be moving out/on very soon soon. I keep on telling my wife that they will be taking a significant amount of these soaps with them when they move out. So far so good Smile

Seriously, at $5 per product, it would be irresponsible NOT to purchase Smile Too bad the Melange balm was already sold out. One son loved the books and movie and I gifted him the new Melange soap at Christmas.

How wonderful and awesome to have sons as shaving buddies! Like built in support, lol! Seriously though, that is very cool.

OT1H I think the most important thing is for you to be comfortable and confident making up your own mind.  Good luck cultivating that.  OTOH life is full of gray areas, and we all need feedback and/or reassurance from time-to-time.  So FWIW I agree with Eric (MaineYooper).  You did not initiate the process, and you are only treating yourself as the giver intended, which makes you a gracious recipient.
