I should probably steer clear of this one, but good sense has never been one of my attributes, so I'll stick my $.02 in.

I believe that Fido has done alot of research into shave brushes... Research we can all benefit from. I also believe that he knew what he wanted in a brush, and believed he could have one made to his specs that would be better, and carry a better price tag, than what was available from the big name makers.
Since he could not have one, or just a few made, because of the economy of scale, he decided to foot the bill for a run of brushes, and offer them to others in the shave community at advantageous prices.
If he's making money... WHY NOT?? I'm sure that an awful lot of time and effort went into having these brushes produced, and should a person not be compensated for extreme effort on the behalf of others? Do any of us work at the break even point?? Or are we all trying to get ahead?
Besides, at Fido's price point, I imagine he's close to the break even point, but who cares?

We often have the ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Some folks just cannot understand the good nature, and passion for a pursuit, of another...

It's too bad... but the old saying is so true! "No good deed goes unpunished," and I've seen in to be true time and again...

To Fido.... Keep your chin up, and don't let the naysayers get you down! I would have purchased one by now, but I blew this month's budget... If they're still available in august, I'll be adding a New forest to my collection...

I've had my say based on what I've observed.

I'm not going to continue on this thread and be baited by name calling and drop to the level of others.

Ecosse, I have no hard feelings. I can understand why you said what you did. You just drew the wrong conclusions from the evidence.

Before I retired, I was the Chief Executive of an English Local Authority. I have a very thick skin. Try explaining a huge tax hike to a hostile audience and you soon toughen up!

Gundog has read the situation spot on. Thanks.

Well said. They have nothing better to do and perhaps paying 649.99 for bloody plexi brush that looks silly is fine for some but then not so for others. Case in point one member described his Persian Jar to be nearly identical to the New Forest. What does that mean? The latter obviously has no ricockulous markup yet perform just as good if not hold its own.

People don't surprise me anymore these days. Instead of being grateful they flame away because they're so miserable and pathetic they have to make everyone else around them wretched ****s.

Why is it ok for a vendor to confine his businesses only stateside and not include those abroad? But yet has a devout following of members who pay $$$ for Rooney? I reckon if you're 1 of 2 vendors stateside you best be marking up said brush because to make it in business you have to be cutthroat, shark, be in it for yourself no holds-barred, have take no prisoner mentality. Of course laws of supply and demand are at play.

Perhaps said haters and mongrels are bitter for paying $$$ for their name brand brushes for lo and behold the New Forest comes to play and sh*t hits fan.

I don't openly admit this because I'm not a pretentious self-absorbed sloar. I once owned a 30k vehicle capable of performing 300HP/300TQ, a watered down based rally vehicle. 0-60 4.7 seconds. 13.5 1/4 mile. Though I've no interest in car bowling. What astounds me is the Symmetrical AWD performance-the sheer sh*t eating grin one is met with taking a corner in mountain pass at 60-65 mph on a 25 MPH turn. The vehicle that comfortably houses 5 passengers in its cabin. Gas mileage of 18/24 just little better than exotic counterparts. A vehicle that yields 337 miles in full tank.

Can a Ferrari do that? I don't know nor do I care to. Is it 10x the STi's price? I reckon cruisin down Rodeo drive at 25 MPH on 6 figure exotic holds its own value the same as a shaver can admit to his friends he shaves daily with a 649.99 shave brush. To each his own...

The irony in all of this is being lost on Fido, who honestly cares about his blog or brushes, the reality of the matter is the diminishing quality of manufactures brushes these days and their retarded pricing....

I don't care if Peter, Paul and Mary come out with a new brush after doing tons of market research disguised in a blog, in reality its probably going to be Chinese and labeled "Handmade in England" :rotflol:

*Edit* For Clarification, the saying "Peter, Paul and Mary" not Fido (Peter) :rotflol:

Fido, it doesn't matter if my version of the story is correct or not, what you did, what you state you did, is still wrong. It shows zero business ethics whats so ever. You seem oblivious to this.

Just had yet another great shave with this brush, I've been using it for nearly two weeks now. It doesn't matter what I throw at it, hard soaps, soft soaps, sticks or creams it comes back with great lather every time. It puts my other badger brushes to shame.

Pete

PS sorry to the SOC, I'll be back someday :ashamed1:

This brush really does deliver. Fido has given the wet shaving world an opportunity to own a first class brush at what are entry level prices for some badger brushes with inferior bristle grade.

Every face latherer should try one. I cannot imagine many of these rocking up on the B,S,T. The only people to complain so far are the ones who have / will not use one for what ever reason.

One thing I'll bet money on, is if a cheap Chinese knock off of a 1305 or a 2009 LE showed up, Holy Hell would be raised on this forum.

Looks like I need to seriously consider one of these brushes. I like a good badger for some of my creams :)

I have been using this brush for 9 days now and,I have to say, have become in one of my top 3 ones, with the Semogue 1305 and the new SOC.
I only can say:THANKS Fido! And for you guys,if you dont have one of these brushes, get one before theyre sold out.
The thing that I love about this brush is that combines the best qualities from boar and badger:from boar the good backbone that I love from my Semogue 1305,and from badger, the softness of the tips.A real winner, the New Forest 2201 finest badger brush!

Damn right! Although unlikely to happen with a boar brush. This is about a badger brush competing with other badgers that cost upwards of 3 times a much $. Again, i believe the only folk who will whinge & moan are those that have not tried them.
