| 01-16-2012 01:25 PM Selwyn, there are a few products labeled to do both but, frankly, I have never found one that I really liked. Alt Innsbruck, for example, does a pre and post shave emulsion but I find it awful as a post shave. Proraso has its pre and post shave cream. Again, I don't care for it as a post shave. For me, it takes so little to have one of each that I don't think about the time saved. Good luck in your search and tell us what you come up with. Freddy |

| 01-16-2012 03:01 PM Sorry Selwyn, I'm not much help either. I'm pretty much with Freddy on this. I do like the way you're thinking though, in trying to simplify it a bit. ~Bob~ 'Life is like a bus ride. By the time you find a seat, you've reached your stop.' -Author Unknown |
I would recommend no preshave products if you plan on shaving with cream, oil changes the creams ability to lather. Some pre-shave oil with shave soap is doable but I am also not a fan of this either because it can cause the leeding edge of the razor to glide over the top of the the hair instead of lifting the hair for the blade. That is especially true for those of you using a closed comb razor. I would just stick with some good soap for pre-shaving. Best oil I ever tried inspite of not using oils much, Taylor Shave Oil, its thick, lasts along time, and smells amazing, smells even better than MrTaylors Cologne. Stunning scent. I do on ocassion, use this oil for touch-ups, outlinning my beard, or just to smell good. Everyone knows I recommend Shea for after shaving but there is one shave balm that would like to recommend because it keeps your skin soft for at least a day. Penhaligons, be it Blenheim Bouquet or another scent. Extremey good for the skin and yes it smells amazing. Yeah I know its expensive but a small dab about the size of a nickle will give you plenty for your face and neck. I also like to run any excess through my hair. I swore by cold water as raising my whiskers..I thought a hot towel wrap did the trick...nope..DR Harris Arlington pre shave..small handful rubbed in..let stand 3-5 minutes..let your face feel warm n tingly..feels great!..bye bye irritation and razor burn..I have sensivtive skin and VERY coarse beard hair so for me..it makes sense...tread lightly with your razors |
| 01-20-2012 06:17 AM I generally use a pure oil afterwards, not before - it can affect the glide too much, as someone has already pointed out. Try using something like Bio Oil or just olive oil afterwards - and a good slap of icy water too! |
