| 07-13-2011 09:25 PM To me this AS is very special. The first time I smelled this AS I was actually almost going to buy the Pinaud Musk, but at first whiff of the SR, it smelled like my grandparents house. The smell of old, musty leather bound books. I couldn't believe it and just had to buy it. I've had it now for several months and have always thought it was interesting that I was smelling of musty books in an old wood paneled library. With summer here, I haven't 'reviewed' the scent of the Pinaud SR until just the other day and I was shocked to notice that I didn't get hit up the nose with musty books, but rather a nice pleasant scent of berries. Were not talking the scent of raspberry shampoo, but rather something you might smell at a winery. I'd like to hear from others who have and use Pinaud Special Reserve to see if others have noticed this also. Gary |

| 07-14-2011 12:03 PM I love Special Reserve. To me its smoky, leathery, and woody ( with just a dash of sweetness )... a very masculine blend. I do find a little is better than too much when applying. It does dry down a little more subtle and smooth. I wonder if that 'sweetness' I detect is the berry scent you smell, Gary? |
| 07-14-2011 12:24 PM hmm..I have liked my Lime-Sec/Vegitol Clubman versions..smell like a barber shops they do!..cheap n always worth the try |

Freddy, I'll see if I can rustle up a vial so I can send you some. geneaut Wrote:I love Special Reserve. Probably is Geneaut, its not a candy smell but something that is almost polar opposite of the dark mustiness of what dominates the scent. Gary |

I love how it smells like an old musty library, but, in the bottle my wife said it smelled like cheap perfume that was past it. :hmm: Gary |
| 07-15-2011 08:25 PM Thanks a million, Gary. I'm really looking forward to that and I'll let you know what I think when I try it. Freddy |
| 07-21-2011 06:11 PM I got Gary's sample and really love this stuff. I am trying to source it locally rather than getting it on line. However, if I can't find it in the San Diego area then I will definitely order on line. I seem to get a subtle sense of rose and vanilla as well as a bit of spice. Freddy |
| 07-22-2011 06:56 AM Another case of YMMV !!! From Gary's,.... musty leather bound books in a wood panel library with a touch of berries or grapes ! To Freddy's,.... roses and vanilla with a touch of spice ! Hmmmm !!! - definetly YMMV ! Now all we need is some one to chime in with.... It smells of gasoline and oranges with a touch of daffodils ! Hey Freddy, I was just poking fun at such a seemingly divergent difference of opinion ! A quick check on bassnotes.com showed that most people picked up on Gary's description of a strong dark leather based scent ( one described it as a well used and oiled baseball glove ) but a few also commented as you did, on the flower ( rose ), vanilla and some commented on the spice finish. ! So you have the ability to accurately pick up on the secondary, more complex nose. Quote from bassnotes.com : "On me this starts out strong, leathery with a floral (I think) je ne sais qoi over a background of vanilla/amber and then mellows out over time. There's an early soap hint that disappears very quickly at the beginning. If the soap hint didn't disappear very quickly, I wouldn't like this scent. In my experience, the je ne sais quoi ratchets back and the vanilla/amber is balanced with the leather in about 2-5 hours. On me, the vanilla/amber dominates after 8-12 hours. Overall, a very pleasant experience." Best, Andy. Wokeupgotoutofbeddraggedacombacrossmyheadfoundmywayupstairsandhadasmokeandsomebodyspokeandiwentintoadream. |
