OK, thanks to David (Linky) for a little PIF, I've had my first shave with this blade.

Is it the old Super Iridium? I don't know yet. I'll say this; it's the same packaging with different print. The glue spots are even in the same location, and in the same excess as the old SI.

The shave itself was with a boar brush, MWF, iKon OC. It was my typical prep. w/ face lather.
Mostly my prep. consists of a little water and loaded brush (I let it sit for a bit) then lather some more and go at it. I've found that my closest shaves are the typical 3 pass in different directions and a little clean-up. Understand, my beard would be a challenge for a 'brush hog'. I've tried more than a few blades, but only a couple really work well for me (Feather and SI).

OK, OK... so how is this blade? Thumbsup
I'm sitting here with a pretty good grin on my face. Mind you, this is only my first impression. One shave does not a blade make. The first stroke told me just about all I needed to know on this shave; every bit as smooth as the SI. In my cleanup the results were obvious.

I need a few more shaves, but even if these aren't the re-incarnate., this is nice. The price point is high; but I wonder if it might not come down, or this is where they're headed. Otherwise I may need to grow a beard after some time in the 'hereafter'.Big Grin

JMHO, but this blade is on par with the SI. Say_Wha

I think I'll scope this blades edge sometime soon.

Say thanks for the first impressions Bob !

Be really interesting to see if you feel the same about the Polsilver after a few more shaves.
I agree it's a bit too early to say conclusively if this is the SI re badged under the Polsilver label but judging from your initial report, it would seem to be a possibility.

Many others (on other forums) have these blades and I can only assume most are too timid to speak out and post their impressions. - They choose to wait and see what others have to say before speaking out .

Thanks for having the courage to call it as you see it ! Thumbsup

Best,
Andy.

Excellent review. I have high hopes for these blades, and look forward to getting a chance to try them.

Just got the blades in the mail (right after walking out of the bathroom as I finished my shave Sad ). Thanks Bob!

But I'm excited to try them out.

I should have qualified my comparison by saying 'so far' it's in line with the SI.

BTW, with a less than stellar shave I would be starting to feel the stubble by now. Yesterdays shave is still pretty damn smooth.

Bob, I'll be curious to know how many shaves you get from the blade. Also, now that I have a new favorite, the Gillette 7 O' Clock Super Platinum (Dark Blue), the Polsilvers will have a new benchmark to meet. Smile

Me too Freddy. But somehow I get the feeling you can get along with a larger variety than I can.

I do seem to be able to use a wide variety of blades but I've always thought that my skin and beard were "average", you know, the sweet spot that manufacturers look for to get the most they can out of a product. However, there are still some blades that are just plain awful for me.

Yeah Freddy, you've got the sweet spot. I've got the old growth forest. Banghead

IMO, The two blades cannot be compared anymore than a Ferarri can be compared with a 1960's Volkswagen.

Both may excel in certain areas of performance (high performance vs low price )but they are both aiming at different market segments and are both intrinsically different even though they are both automobiles.

The Gillette is a medium sharp blade and the Iridium is a very sharp blade.
You can't compare them. - If they were both medium sharp blades or both very sharp blades then yes of course they could stand comparison.

An even more extreme comparison would be to try and compare a Zorrick with a Feather.
Both blades are so totally different that they can't be compared anymore than the VW can be compared to the Ferrari.

The Zorrick is for those that have an extremely light beard and or can only tolerate the mildest, most gentle of shaves ( with what is ostensibly a dull blade ) while the Feather is for those that have the heaviest of thick beards and or demand the sharpest and closest of shaves.

Best,
Andy.

So, for what it's worth I took a picture of the New Polsilver. Please remember that taking these pics isn't my specialty. All I have is a little pocket camera and my grandfathers microscope.

I could be wrong, and my photography is marginal at best, but it does appear that the SI is a little more buffed along the leading edge. Just a bit smoother to look at. Then again, it could be the photographs.
Also the light angle would make a difference. Whatever the case, this Polsilver certainly appears smoother than the Personna Meds. and others I've seen.

eta: I just took another look at both this blade and the SI without worrying about the picture. Back and forth I went. I swear, if there's a difference, I don't see it. These two, along with the Feather, all have that buffed edge. As though the manufacturer took one extra step in some form of 'stropping'. JMHO

I may try taking another pic sometime later. It's kind of a PITA.

Andy, you're forgetting one thing and that is I am comparing these blades for my face so ultimately, what is a Ferrari for you may be a Volkswagen for me and vice versa which is why I still maintain that of all the equipment that goes into our daily shaves, blades are the most YMMV. While I certainly appreciate, and indeed look forward to, the knowledge that people like Bob, Brooke, and you bring here, ultimately, it is what my face tells me at the end of that shave that is most important. When I see reviews like yours (which are superb, by the way), for example, what they do is tempt me to try the product talked about and come up with my own thoughts. Indeed, it was your original write-up of the Dark Blues that had me itching to try them. When I had the opportunity to do so I ended up concurring with your review. I couldn't care less whether it's the Ferrari or the Volkswagen of blades; it just works great for me. Smile (P.S. I couldn't care less about the Ferrari because I don't like to drive, anyway. Rotflol Rolleye )

IMO, The two blades cannot be compared anymore than a Ferarri can be compared with a 1960's Volkswagen... .

Freddy, if I didn't know better, I'd swear you're going through the 'change in life'Big Grin. Of course you're right. If you live in the city and don't like to drive anyway... who needs the Ferrari? A VW is certainly easier to park; and forget any gas mileage comparison. Jaw-dropping

I think what some of us are trying to find is that fast car (sharp), that still gets around town (mileage/wear). That's all. Cheers

BTW: I had my second shave tonight without changing any of the variables. Did some reading today, and Andy, but for one or two, nobody is sticking their neck out. You're right.

The only thing I changed was the AS.

I don't want to influence opinions, one way or another. I should probably just say that this blade and I get along very well (so far).

I only wish the prices weren't going where they are.

Nah, not going through the change of life. (How can I be going through the change of life when I still haven't figured out life before any changes? Eek7 Rotflol ) Sorry if I came on a bit too strong. By the way, what the heck does a Ferrari even look like. And Volkswagens, they're funny looking buses in psychedelic colors with peace symbols all over them, right? Beatnik
