I only have three razors, a Feather AS, a Wilkinson Sticky, and an iKon Modern Bulldog. But I have collected a few brushes. ![[Image: 2011-11-0812-29-16-IMG_2508.jpg]](http://i1093.photobucket.com/albums/i433/churchilllafemme/2011-11-0812-29-16-IMG_2508.jpg) And some soaps, creams, and aftershaves.

What was the brush organizer before it was reincarnated into whaat it is now? What's your overall feeling of the difference between the Somerset Simpson brushes and the modern day Simpsons?

What's your overall feeling of the difference between the Somerset Simpson brushes and the modern day Simpsons? I believe the organizer was a school desk drawer; that's how it was advertised on eBay. However, it's also possible that it once was a typeset drawer from a printer. I'm not really sure. In terms of my impression of Somersets versus newer Simpsons, generally the Somersets seem to be slightly softer, still with good backbone but not quite as rigid, and perhaps not as dense, with flowthrough that is somewhat more free. The tips of the Somerset Supers are also noticeably softer than those of modern Supers. And it also seems to me that among the Somersets there is more variability of color and hair quality even within hair grade groups. No two Somerset brushes in Best are quite the same, just as no two in Super are even close to identical. Forum members have commented on the variation in colors of my Somerset Bests when I've posted pictures. I think this gives each brush more individual character. My guess is that this may be because of less rigorous brush-to-brush quality control, or perhaps more variation in badger hair lots, in "the old days." All of this, of course, is very subjective and just my opinion, and it no doubt is colored by my obvious bias for the Somersets. Owners of newer Simpsons will probably disagree vigorously.
