Selwyn sent me an amazing goody box stuffed with old favorites and a few things I've been anxious to try. A million thanks, my friend. [Image: bf-jumping-thanks.gif]

BLIX is made in Turkey and Selwyn introduced it to a few of us. It's a really decent cream that I don't think is very expensive.

Yesterday, the postman delivered my latest acquisition, a STAR DE set in its original box. While some of the blades have been used, and possibly the razor, it is in fine condition for its age and I love the paperwork that came with it. Also, it's neat to have something that was made in my hometown. I wonder how much that US49¢ is worth in today's money. :hmm:

Have you used one yet Freddy? Please let me know if there a good place to start looking for one if it shaves nice.

Thanks,

Thanks,

Brooke
Brooke, I got my first one more than a year ago and it has remained in my rotation ever since. Like Selwyn, I love this razor. As I mentioned somewhere else on DFS, I believe they were the American Safety Razor Co.'s (ASR) answer to the Gillette Tech. However, I like it much better. I find it heavier and better balanced than the Tech but I also find that it somehow combines a non-aggressive shave with one that is very close (BBS most of the time) and works beautifully with all of my favorite blades. Today, I used it for the first time with a Personna Prep blade that arrived last week but that I hadn't yet used. Again, a BBS shave.

Keep in mind that it is not an aggressive razor so if you prefer or need that then the STAR may not appeal. Also, from the descriptions that you and I have given about our shaves, we have very different skin and hair types. As a rule, I do not tend to bumps or ingrown hairs. Actually, the STAR may be good for those problems because it is so gentle. All in all, I think if you can get one, it shouldn't hurt your skin and is worth a try.

I purchased mine on e-Bay and paid more for the one shown here because it came with all of the paperwork and box. When they do show up on the Bay, depending on their condition and how much you want to clean them up, they seem to run somewhere between $10-$20, give or take a buck. That is usually just for the razor itself. I hope this helps.

Freddy
