| 09-18-2011 01:31 PM best, I've got shaving brush: semogue 1305 I am very happy but I'm looking for an additional brush preferably something smaller and more rigid as the 1305 what can you recommend me and why |
| 09-18-2011 07:53 PM The 620 fits the bill. It has good backbone to it and good flow through. Mine took an age to break in. In the end i hand lathered with it everyday & then gave it the hair drier treatment. It is the perfect shave stick brush IMO. It easily removes all the soap of your face and holds enough for a 3 pass shave. I believe the 1520 & 1438 have the same knot as the 620, only the handles and prices are different. |
Semogue 1520, 620 -> 21mm knot Semogue 1438 -> 22mm knot My advice is the 1438, it is slightly larger - and a great brush for facelathering soaps and sticks. The other two are slightly smaller, but also excellent. |

Although it is not smaller, it is much more dense. Not only does it have a wider knot, but the bristles are packed in more densely, making for much more backbone than the 1305. I personally didn't care for the shorter lofts of the 620, 1428, and 1520, but I do know that many people do love them. Maybe I just didn't give them enough of a chance, I don't know. They are more rigid than the 1305 because of their shorter loft. Here's a look at the different brushes mentioned, including yours, so you can compare the numbers: 1305: 22mm X 55mm 620/1520: 21mm X 50mm 1438: 22mm X 50mm SOC Boar: 24mm X 57mm The downside to the SOC is the cost when compared to the other brushes. But, you're also getting a larger percentage of premium boar bristles in a wider knot for that cost. |
Yeah, I have some items of that brand "Antiga Barbearia de Bairro" - the shaving soap and the badger brush, and some bath soaps as well. The brushes (both the boar and the badger) are re-branded Semogues. The boar brush has the same knot than the 1438. But the price is higher because of the nice presentation box, and, for now, it is only possible to buy those items in brick-and-mortar stores in Portugal. The brand is preparing to launch their products internationally, but for some reason, still hasn't done it yet. |
